  • Today we present the EU budget for 2028-2034.   This is the most ambitious EU budget ever.   We are investing more in our independence and in our people.   🌱 Cohesion and agriculture remain at the heart of our budget. 🧑🤝🧑 We are dedicating strong resources to social policies. 👩🔬 Our budget will make major boosts to innovation, digital, clean tech, and decarbonisation. 🇪🇺 It will help build a Union that protects. 🌍 Match our responsibilities on the global stage. 🇺🇦 And support Ukraine’s recovery and path to EU membership.   This is a budget for the realities of today, as well as the challenges of tomorrow. #ThePowerOfTogether

  • Every flood, fire, and storm can carry a story of livelihoods, families and homes destroyed.    The impact of climate change is undeniable. On the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis, we pause to remember the lives lost to it, and those forever changed.     It is also a stark reminder and call to action. By preparing our homes, infrastructure, economy, and health systems, we can protect our communities. Alongside efforts to cut climate-warming emissions, the EU tackles growing climate risks by:     🆘Deploying rapid-response teams cross Europe  📡Launching early-warning systems for extreme weather  🏙️Building and adapting cities to be climate-resilient  🏥Training healthcare workers to address climate-related risks Let’s honour the victims by building a safer future.

  • A safer internet starts with smarter age checks.    We're rolling out our first prototype of an age verification app to help protect minors from harmful content online.   It is designed to allow users to prove they’re over 18 before accessing restricted adult content, without revealing personal information or allowing anyone to track what they view.    🌍 The pilot phase kicks off with Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, and Spain, who will test and tailor the solution for a customised national age verification app. Making sure our children and young people are safe online is of paramount importance. europa.eu/!BKxcW3   #EuropeanUnion

  • Every citizen has the right to good 🇪🇺 administration! The European Ombudsman ensures that the work of EU institutions is transparent, ethical and in the best interests of all Europeans. 🤝 Elected by the European Parliament, the Ombudsman investigates complaints by citizens, organisations or businesses, but can also launch own-initiative inquiries. The Ombudsman publishes annual reports that promote accountability and good governance. ⚖️️ In 1995, the first European Ombudsman, 🇫🇮 Jacob Söderman, took office. He was succeeded by 🇬🇷 P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, 🇮🇪 Emily O’Reilly, and the current Ombudsman 🇵🇹 Teresa Anjinho. 👩⚖️ ✨Today, we mark 30 years of strengthening transparency and accountability within EU institutions and celebrate how the European Ombudsman is bringing the EU closer to citizens.
