⚗️ The #EUChemical industry is currently facing significant challenges. High energy prices, unfair international competition and low market demand are putting severe pressure on EU-based companies. In the last 2 years, more than 20 major sites have closed in an unprecedented wave. Today, we have proposed an Action Plan for the Chemical Industry with EU Environment and Climate to respond to these challenges and set the direction for a modern and competitive sector. It includes: 🤝 establishing a Critical Chemical Alliance to work with stakeholders and EU countries to support the industry. It will also help strengthen trade defence measures against unfair pricing, especially critical molecules. ♻️ support for Critical Chemical Sites to attract investments, quality jobs and innovative startups. ⚡ reducing energy and feedstock costs, encouraging hydrogen and clean carbon sources though a technology-neutral approach, and shorter permitting for decarbonisation projects. ⛔ simplified rules on chemicals to allow for a more conducive business environment. We're also proposing a Simplification Package to reduce costs and administrative burden for the chemical industry, which is expected to save at least €363 million for the sector annually. Finally, our proposed ECHA Regulation intends to better equip the European Chemicals Agency with the resources it needs to regulate hazardous chemicals, waste management and water. 📰 Full press release ➡️ https://europa.eu/!4HbTYx
