We take note of the letter sent by U.S. President Trump outlining a revised tariff rate and a new timeline. Imposing 30 percent tariffs on EU exports would disrupt essential transatlantic supply chains, to the detriment of businesses, consumers and patients on both sides of the Atlantic. Few economies in the world match the European Union's level of openness and adherence to fair trading practices. The EU has consistently prioritized a negotiated solution with the U.S., reflecting our commitment to dialogue, stability, and a constructive transatlantic partnership. We remain ready to continue working towards an agreement by August 1. At the same time, we will take all necessary steps to safeguard EU interests, including the adoption of proportionate countermeasures if required. Meanwhile, we continue to deepen our global partnerships, firmly anchored in the principles of rules-based international trade.

  • This Friday, Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will welcome industry leaders for an Implementation Dialogue discussing non-preferential EU Rules of Origin from a business perspective. How can we keep these rules firm and fair, while making the process easy for producers and importers?    🚢 In our complex global economy, it’s not always easy to say where imported goods are really from. The country from which they arrive is not necessarily the place where they were produced or manufactured.    But customs authorities across the EU need to know the economic nationality of all goods entering the EU market. It’s their job to apply the right tariffs, keep consumers safe and ensure a level playing field for business.    📋 That’s why we have Rules of Origin, so we can ascertain the true home country of the goods we import. But these rules can be complex for businesses and authorities to navigate. It’s time to see if they can be made more transparent and easier to use.    In fact, the European Commission is working to simplify many EU regulations, and we are listening to citizens, authorities and businesses as we do it.    We will keep the conclusions of Friday’s meeting in mind as we push forward with a major reform of the EU Customs Union. These changes will make life simpler for importers and authorities, while protecting European businesses and shoppers.    Read more 👉 https://europa.eu/!QpXd4P
