Every citizen has the right to good 🇪🇺 administration! The European Ombudsman ensures that the work of EU institutions is transparent, ethical and in the best interests of all Europeans. 🤝 Elected by the European Parliament, the Ombudsman investigates complaints by citizens, organisations or businesses, but can also launch own-initiative inquiries. The Ombudsman publishes annual reports that promote accountability and good governance. ⚖️️ In 1995, the first European Ombudsman, 🇫🇮 Jacob Söderman, took office. He was succeeded by 🇬🇷 P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, 🇮🇪 Emily O’Reilly, and the current Ombudsman 🇵🇹 Teresa Anjinho. 👩⚖️ ✨Today, we mark 30 years of strengthening transparency and accountability within EU institutions and celebrate how the European Ombudsman is bringing the EU closer to citizens.
