  • Must-read report on the state of career navigation support from our partners at Schultz Family Foundation. A key finding: 70%+ of young people are using social media to learn about educational opportunities and explore careers. But, as Marie Groark says, 'these platforms were designed to drive engagement, not direction.' Link to report below.

    Managing Director, Schultz Family Foundation

I’ve long believed that being an optimist means looking for possibility, even in complexity. It’s what’s fueled my work across sectors—believing that with the right partners and persistence, change is possible. But our new data from Schultz Family Foundation and HarrisX - a Stagwell Inc. company is a clear signal: belief alone won’t fix a broken system. We need urgency. The #BrokenMarketplace isn’t just a concept—it’s lived reality for millions of young people. In fact, The Burning Glass Institute estimates that more than 15 million members of Gen Zer ages 18-24 (or more than half) are unemployed, underemployed, or churning in entry level jobs.   One of the most striking findings: 70% of young people now turn to social media as their most trusted guide for making decisions about education and careers.   In the absence of clear, credible support from schools, employers, or families, they turn to the algorithm. TikTok and YouTube aren’t just information hubs—they’re shaping identity, ambition, and aspiration.  But these platforms were designed to drive engagement, not direction. They weren’t built to guide young people toward opportunity.   Many of us have spent our careers working across sectors to close the gap between learning and opportunity—partnering with educators, employers, policymakers, technologists, and philanthropists to create pathways for young people to discover and apply their talents.   There have been bright spots: initiatives like the Youth Mental Health Corps, BASTA, SkillUp Online, and American Student Assistance's work with Jobs for the Future (JFF) that aim to give young people access to opportunity and information to find their path, companies like IBM, Starbucks, and Walmart that connect education to employment, schools like Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle that give young people a change to explore careers while still in high school and the work of states like Ohio, Colorado and Indiana that align systems to support smoother transitions. But these examples remain the exception, not the rule.   Too often, those of us fighting this battle have not had access to the data, the reach, or the tools to help young people navigate what’s next.   The optimist in me believes AI can help solve some of these challenges. But it also raises the stakes. As the labor market undergoes seismic change, we face new questions: Which jobs will emerge? Which skills will matter most? And how will young people know where to begin?   #BrokenMarketplace is a reminder to all of us that we can’t settle for isolated innovations. We need a system where high-quality, work-connected learning is the expectation—for every young person, in every community. Explore the research: www.brokenmarketplace.org

  • We were thrilled to join Twilio SIGNAL 2025 and connect in person with @Twilio’s customers — sharing CareerVillage.org’s mission and inviting attendees to volunteer on the spot. With a quick scan of a QR code, participants wrote real #CareerAdvice for students, proving that making an impact can be as simple as a few taps. This collaboration with Twilio’s marketing team brought #SocialImpact front and center at one of their biggest events of the year. Huge thanks to Twilio for championing our work and making space for purpose-driven moments like this!

It’s time! It was an honor to officially kick off #NAFNext2025 with Crystal Harvey this morning. Answering questions from across our network reminded me just how committed the NAF community is to student success. A big thank you to Carol J Carter, CEO of GlobalMindED for welcoming us all to Denver. And to Jared Chung, Founder and Executive Director of CareerVillage.org for his powerful keynote about how the future of AI will be shaped by leadership in education. We are just getting started! There are many more meaningful moments and connections ahead over the next few days with the NAF network.

  • We observe Juneteenth as both a historic milestone and a call to action, a powerful reminder that the journey toward racial equity and opportunity continues. Today, we honor the strength, creativity, and resilience of Black communities while also acknowledging that there is still work to be done, especially when it comes to equitable career opportunities, educational pathways, and economic mobility. According to a 2021 McKinsey study, Black workers are underrepresented in fast-growing, high-wage industries and overrepresented in lower-growth, lower-wage sectors. For instance, 43% of Black workers in the private sector earn less that $30,000 a year. These disparities are not due to a lack of aspiration or potential. They are the result of systemic gaps in mentorship, advancement opportunities, and equitable access to career-building resources amongst many other barriers. At CareerVillage.org we understand that access to career advice and mentorship remains unequal. We are committed to closing that gap by creating tools that ensure every young person has the guidance, support, and opportunity they need to achieve their dreams.

CareerVillage is honored to be a grantee of the Morgridge Family Foundation Our founder, Jared Chung, was recently spotlighted by the foundation for his leadership and vision in building scalable, equitable career guidance. As the world of work continues to evolve, Jared emphasizes the urgency to respond, not just with AI skills, but with the soft skills that power so many industries: “We need to teach core skills, management skills, and AI skills.” We're proud to be building tools that not only support career exploration, but transform how young people prepare for a future where change is constant. Thank you to the Morgridge Family Foundation for their support in this important work! Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gndDkcjn #FutureOfWork #AIForGood #SocialImpact #WorkforceDevelopment

  • 🌈 This Pride Month, CareerVillage celebrates our vibrant LGBTQIA+ community while also using this moment to amplify the realities many LGBTQIA+ workers still face. As the Aspen Institute highlights: 🏳️🌈 Nearly 50% of the community has faced unfair treatment in the workplace with higher rates amongst people of color and trans folks.   🏳️🌈 About 1 in 3 LGBTQIA+ employees have quit their jobs or pursued alternate career paths due to concerns of discrimination.  🏳️🌈 A majority of LGBTQIA+ people report household earnings of less than $50,000 a year compared to 36% of the general population And yet, there’s hope. Across the country, employers, non-profit organizations, and communities are coming together to reimagine work as a space for economic mobility and equity. Pride is a celebration but it’s also a call to action. Let’s create sustainable career pathways for every job seeker and learner.

Senior Director, Social Impact @ LinkedIn

Today at the Jobs for the Future (JFF) #Horizons2025 Summit I spoke with Eric Reyes (CareerVillage.org), @Kimberly Hall (NYC Public Schools), and Morgan Walker (Indiana Department of Workforce Development) about how we can create future-ready career pathways for all. Our conversation reinforced the importance of skills like flexibility, adaptability, and connection in navigating this new world of work - and the need to keep humans at the center of the educational and workforce systems we design in the age of AI. Jobs are evolving. By 2030 nearly 70% of the skills used in jobs today will have changed. Confidence in career stability is declining, especially among Gen Z. And yet, people want to prepare themselves for this new world of work. We’re seeing meaningful growth in how people are signaling skills, especially among early-career professionals, women, and those most impacted by change.     #JFFHorizons #HorizonsonLinkedIn #FutureOfWork #SkillsFirst #AI #EconomicMobility #CareerPathways #WorkforceDevelopment #EducationInnovation #HumanCenteredTech #Adaptability
