I saw a mannequin at a clothing store in a department store, but I don't know what type of mannequin it is or the name of the mannequin type. Which SE sites allow you to ask questions about what the name of an object is?

1@CDR. I'm not a downvoter, so this is just my impression. The title poses a question that sort of implies SE sites can be divided into two kinds -- ones that allow identification questions and those that don't. I participate actively in half a dozen sites and browse frequently another half dozen. I'm not familiar with any sites that disallow identification questions per se. So the Question here could be improved by citing an example of such a site. Instead the body of the Meta Question dwells on a specific query (mannequin types) that isn't about SE policies or software.– hardmathCommented May 3 at 17:47

9It seems as though you're expecting to find a Stack Exchange site that is specifically for trying to identify objects, regardless of category. That's how I understood it, and why I downvoted: because it strikes me as entirely unreasonable to expect such a Stack Exchange site to exist; it defies a basic understanding of how the network works or why we have the kind of categorization we do.– Karl KnechtelCommented May 3 at 23:09

7@hardmath Amusingly, I've encountered numerous people who believe (or gaslightingly claim to believe) that disallowing identification questions is the norm on almost all SE sites, and that Science Fiction & Fantasy is a weird outlier for allowing them. That was the motivation behind me creating the post that rene linked, to prove once-and-for-all that most sites allow identification questions.– Rand al'ThorCommented May 5 at 13:07

It would probably be considered off-topic on ELL because the request is not about general English.
However, if you know for a fact that mannequins have subsets, you could–repeat could–ask on EL&U. The question must be focused on specific vocabulary, nomenclature, terminology, etc. and you need to show you did some research. Even citing a resource (please don't say, "I googled") and explaining why it didn't help, would be sufficient.
Welcome new community member. There is not currently a specific Stack Exchange site on which asking for generic object identification questions is appropriate. In theory, such a site could be proposed on Area 51, Stack Exchange's place for new site proposals.
In lieu of such a site, object identification questions are welcome for quite a few specific topics. An excellent answer listing those topics is available here. Asking quality object identification questions on those Stack Exchange sites is encouraged.
Good luck, and again, welcome!

3Note that the question has (more or less succesfully) been asked and answered on Arts & Crafts two days ago: crafts.stackexchange.com/questions/13469/…– MarijnCommented May 6 at 6:13

3@user508021 the claim by Rand al'Thor is not a lie. All sites except 2 allow identification questions. However, an identification question may be disallowed for other reasons. For example, because the question is not a good fit for the site (asking how mannequins are being used for making clothes is on-topic on Arts & Crafts, but asking about mannequins by themselves is not really on-topic there). Or because the question is unclear, too broad, used to promote a product, etc., these are all reasons to close a question. Other identification questions that follow asking guidelines would be fine.– MarijnCommented May 6 at 12:26
