    @user508021 the claim by Rand al'Thor is not a lie. All sites except 2 allow identification questions. However, an identification question may be disallowed for other reasons. For example, because the question is not a good fit for the site (asking how mannequins are being used for making clothes is on-topic on Arts & Crafts, but asking about mannequins by themselves is not really on-topic there). Or because the question is unclear, too broad, used to promote a product, etc., these are all reasons to close a question. Other identification questions that follow asking guidelines would be fine.
