There's a bit of ambiguity in the updated flag dialog. What should I do when I encounter a post of "very low quality"?

This applies to answers too. For those kind of posts, I think we should apply Hanlon's Razor; if it's a pattern, a custom moderator flag is appropriate.

I'm not seeing this "deleted as very low quality" option in flag dialogs anywhere. But I understand R/A flags to be intended for posts that are complete nonsense or vandalism - not for good faith attempts at a question or answer that are simply illegible. The wording for the R/A flag should be revised. It's not clear to me that we ever really needed VLQ flags - except as a way to get curators to cast "Unclear" close votes on questions or delete votes on answers. Commented Jun 26 at 18:53

@KarlKnechtel You'll only see it on posts with score <= 0 and less than a week old (and probably a few other conditions I fail to recall right now). That hasn't changed, this is just a UI / wording update.

R/A flags carry a -100 reputation penalty if validated, that may be too harsh for certain cases. I like the VLQ flag for posts that are more or less trying to answer the question (so NAA is not appropriate) but are better off being deleted by the community via the LQP review queue. VLQ for questions can certainly be removed: meta.stackexchange.com/q/195673/295232

  • I know so many people who are offspring of Hanlon, if they made a great choice it would be by random accident; same as all their other decisions. Sometimes it's got to be a gut feeling, and not allowing them to be saved by Hanlon. -- Example: New account & VLQ question or answer which incorporates links which in no way improve the random post, that's spam (to me). There would have to be at least a tiny value in the Q or A and the link would have to be a necessity to get off with a warning and no suspension; a great Q or A would be warn only.

Our flag system is deeply integrated within the platform, so while removing a flag isn’t entirely straightforward, it’s certainly possible! To address this, we’ve introduced a site setting that allows communities to enable or disable the "deleted as very low quality" flag on a per-site basis.

As with other site settings, we believe that each community is best suited to determine what works for them. Currently, the "deleted as very low quality" flag is active across the network and available in the flagging modal. If you believe a change is needed, simply start a discussion on your site's Meta and tag it with . Once consensus is reached, the Community Management team will be happy to implement the change for your community.

Note: We did end up removing the "low quality" part of the rude/abusive flag's description shortly after this post. The site setting is only for the "deleted as very low quality" flag.

The rude/abusive flag description now reads:

This post attacks other people or groups, contains inappropriate content, or is unintelligible.
