🎉 Exciting news from the Western Indian Ocean Governance Initiative (WIOGI). Every great story has chapters and today, WIOGI is turning a new page.    The regional project was born out of a need to strengthen policy dialogue for ocean governance, enhance private sector and community engagement in regional action, and develop multi-stakeholder partnerships for a sustainable blue economy, in the #WesternIndianOcean (WIO) region.   Over time, that scope has grown and now it’s time for a new name and look that reflects our evolution.    Goodbye WIOGI. Hello, ProsperBlue! ProsperBlue stands for “healthy ocean, prosperous people”. We are moving a step further and are customising our name for the countries in which we are operating in – #Mozambique, #Tanzania, #Madagascar and #Somalia, while retaining our visual identity. This reflects our shared goal across dynamic yet unique communities across borders. In #Mozambique, we are very proud to be a lead partner in the European Union (EU) – German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded sustainable blue economy programme #ProsperAzul, together with our sister project VaMoz Competir, working with the GIZ Mozambique team. Our commitment towards an inclusive and sustainable blue economy has not changed – we are making it clearer that we are all about healthy oceans, prosperous people. ProsperBlue is funded by BMZ with EU co-funding for activities in #Mozambique under ProsperAzul. It is implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Nairobi Convention. The European Union, together with Denmark, Germany, France and Lithuania, announced #EU4Reconstruction, a €37 million Team Europe initiative that unites the strength, experience and solidarity of Europe to support Ukraine’s ongoing recovery and reconstruction. The signing of the programme agreement took place during the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025 in Rome, alongside other key international commitments. 🇺🇦 Running from 1 August 2025 to 30 June 2028, the programme will direct technical support to strengthening Ukraine’s reconstruction architecture – promoting that public investment for reconstruction is transparent, accountable, and aligned with EU standards from the ground up.  🤝 The programme will be implemented by GIZ Ukraine on behalf of Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), alongside co-implementing partners Expertise France in Ukraine, Lithuania’s CPVA, and Denmark.  EU4Reconstruction will reinforce the leadership of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, strengthen the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, and empower local governments to manage reconstruction professionally and sustainably. Civil society and independent media will play an active role in oversight, ensuring public trust and reducing corruption risks.     🇪🇺 As a Team Europe Initiative, EU4Reconstruction reflects the collective power of the EU and its Member States by combining resources, expertise and political will, Europe acts as one strong, coherent partner. This approach makes us more effective – not only for Ukraine’s benefit, but also for Europe’s shared future. The civil society in Ukraine is under pressure: after more than three years at war, people are exhausted, and funding is shrinking. Yet, civil society organisations are an important backbone to rebuild the country and provide stability to local communities. That’s why Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is involved in the newly established platform Foundations for Ukraine (F4U), initiated by the Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with the Mott Foundation.    Yesterday, GIZ's Managing Director Ingrid-Gabriela Hoven and Markus Lux, Vice President of the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s Special Division Ukraine, signed the corresponding Memorandum of Understanding at the International Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) 2025 in Rome. F4U brings together international foundations and Ukrainian organisations to intensify collaboration with Ukrainian civil society and strengthen it in the long term.    GIZ is part of this movement: with our regional expertise and strong local network, we are actively contributing to the platform. Together with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, we aim to further strengthen the bridge between local actors and international supporters. We are sending a strong signal for the recovery and empowerment of Ukrainian civil society.    “We very much welcome the partnership between Foundations for Ukraine and GIZ! Given Ukraine's ongoing needs in the recovery process, especially those of its civil society, such public-private partnerships send a clear signal of solidarity and help counteract possible fatigue on the part of donors and local partners alike. The Ukraine Recovery Conference #URC2025 is all about new partnerships - a strong signal of international solidarity. We are pleased to be part of several important initiatives that are paving the way for a sustainable recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.

Tomorrow’s jobs will be digital. But today, millions still lack the skills to access them. At the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and AI For Good Global Summit in Geneva, I had the privilege of joining thought leaders from International Telecommunication Union, International Labour Organization, and global regulators to discuss how we can bridge the digital skills gap in an age shaped by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. Yet in Nigeria today, 4 out of 5 young people lack basic digital skills — a staggering gap in one of the youngest and fastest-growing countries. • In India, only 1 in 3 people feel ready for the digital job market. • And globally, women, rural communities, and older workers remain underrepresented in digital skills initiatives. 🎓To coincide with the Women's European Championship in Switzerland, the sixth edition of the 'Future Leaders in Football' Program began on 4. of July. The DFB is organising the Leadership-Program in Lörrach together with its main partner Volkswagen, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH).  🆙‘Future Leaders in Football’ is aimed at young aspiring female leaders in football and beyond. The program demonstrates the DFB's ongoing commitment to support the empowerment of women in football, specifically increasing the representation of women in decision making bodies.    ⚽With Lise Klaveness being the first female president of the Norwegian Football Federation – having played over 70 matches for the national team – and Professor Laura McAllister CBE, FLSW, FRSA, a former Welsh international / captain and now UEFA Vice President, we had two influential women present at the FLF –  the two UEFA ExCO members with strong sporting backgrounds whereby, DFB General Secretary Heike Ullrich has always been involved in football, comes from a very operational approach in the football business.   🗣️Ullrich: "Programmes like FLF create a unique space where international connections can grow – across borders, backgrounds, and roles. These relationships don’t end when the workshop does. They are the beginning of a lasting support system that empowers women to lead, to collaborate, and to stay connected far beyond today." 💬Klaveness: "To bring about change, we need more women in football – not just for political an moral reasons, but for competence. If you do not push, you will never get change, you will remain part of a stuck structure. We need friction to be successful and develop. With this real progress can begin. " 🗣️McAllister: "I have always been someone who has a very strategic approach to bring on developments in football. The positive power of football has not been maximized yet, and with more women on decision-making bodies, we can achieve that." 🏅And who better than Nadine Keßler, the 2013 European champion and now UEFA Managing Director for Women's Football, to answer questions on the development of women's football? She met with 25 emerging female leaders in Lörrach today. 🗨️ Keßler:"When we are getting there, to the point that every CEO has women’s football on the agenda without it being a question, we made it.   We have to grow the business case of women’s football and we need to make return on investments. Developing European solutions together: Last week, I had an inspiring meeting with Justyna Janiszewska from Solidarity Fund PL - Fundacja Solidarności Międzynarodowej and her team in Warsaw.    FSPL and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH are partners in #TeamEurope. We both bring extensive expertise to the Eastern European region. Together, we support the European Union rapprochement and help countries to improve their accession prospects. Our cooperation in Ukraine and Moldova proves that we can efficiently implement European integration projects by pooling our expertise.     Staying on the ball here is important to us because we want to coordinate in the best possible way. Implementing European Union development policy as efficiently as possible is the basis of our cooperation.     It was impressive to see how much commitment and expertise is available at FSPL.
