À propos
The Publications Office of the European Union is the official provider of publishing services to all EU institutions, bodies and agencies. As such, we are the central point of access to EU law, and also to publications, data, research results, procurement notices and other official information. The Publications Office therefore plays a central role in informing the public about what the EU does and means for them, and in unlocking the power of data. Our mission is to support EU policies as a centre of excellence for information, data and knowledge management, and to ensure that this broad range of information is available to the public as accessible and reusable data to facilitate transparency, economic activity and the diffusion of knowledge.

Do you use emojis too? They certainly add warmth, emotion and nuance as well as colour to our messages, but are we making sure that everyone can understand them? What’s fun for some might be frustrating or unintelligible for others. For screen reader users, emojis without proper descriptions can create confusion or break the flow of a message. Try turning on the screen reader and you’ll understand. To see how to use emojis accessibly, see our checklist for accessible social media posts! Help build a digital space where everyone smiles, whatever the emoji.😊 Read more: https://europa.eu/!PGyfgg 💡

🛰️ As our world is consistently shaped by data, having open access to Earth observation data goes beyond being a technical achievement. The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem is creating impact by making open data an accessible public good. By offering free, open and near real-time access to satellite data, people can better understand our planet and use that knowledge to act on it. From tracking deforestation and urban development to monitoring climate change, Copernicus’ datasets guide decision-making and facilitate successful transformations. Open data does more than just grant access – it creates room for opportunity and innovation. Read more 👉 https://europa.eu/!HbwHDP #EUOpenData

#OnThisDay, in 1964, the landmark Costa/ENEL ruling established a key principle of #EULaw, very well known by law students and legal professionals. 👩🎓 The case arose when Flaminio Costa, an Italian lawyer, challenged the nationalisation of the electricity sector by the Italian government, arguing that it violated the EEC Treaty. The ensuing legal battle reached the European Court of Justice, which ruled that the Treaty of Rome, and thus EU law, took precedence over national laws. This decision taken by the Court of Justice of the European Union has had far-reaching implications and has contributed to the stability and predictability of #EULaw. ⚖️ Read on EUR-Lex how an unpaid electricity bill helped to substantiate a key principle of #EULaw: https://europa.eu/!RRmpy3 ⚡ 🔎 ……………………………….. We were delighted to welcome yesterday over 30 students from 25 nationalities as part of the EU Summer School on Multilingualism! 🇪🇺📚 The students in translation, law and interpreting were all curious to discover how multilingualism shapes our work at the Publications Office of the European Union. They got to learn about the various facets of our work in language editing and quality assurance and the tools we use, especially the Interinstitutional Style Guide (ISG) that we maintain and champion. We walked the students through our editing workflow, highlighting everything from manuscript corrections to accessibility checks and clear writing principles. Bridging academic knowledge with hands-on professional practice, we gave them an editing exercise to do: they had to apply their linguistic skills to proofread an actual EU text, using correction marks and markup tools in a simulated real-world setting. About the event, our colleague Anna Stoica said: ‘Multilingualism is at the heart of everything we publish. It’s inspiring to see the next generation of language professionals so eager to learn about our role in ensuring high-quality and accessible written content. Inspiring too to see their interest in the technologies we use.’ From the angle of the students, Anjaly Gianchandani commented: ‘I truly valued the hands-on experience and the chance to connect with professional proofreaders who were generous with their time and insights. It was a unique and enriching opportunity.’ Special thanks to Vanda Mucic, deputy head of our Language Quality Services, who closely accompanied the students throughout the day, as well as to all the colleagues who contributed to making this a lively and enriching exchange. Looking forward to the next edition of the #MultilingualismEUSummerSchool! ................................... 🌍 As the global population has surpassed 8 billion, World Population Day is a reminder that behind each statistic is a person with a story. In the last 30 years, developments have been made to how we collect and use population data. These advancements enabled improvements in healthcare, increased life expectancy and gave us a better understanding of urbanisation and migration trends. However, marginalised communities are still being underrepresented in population data. To combat this, tools like the World Population Dashboard and population datasets on data.europa.eu offer a closer look into demographics, gender, education and human capital measurements. These resources help make informed decisions that are fair and just across all societies. Read more 👉 https://europa.eu/!f6FPjc #EUOpenData
