Bridging the Learning to Livelihood Gap. India is amongst the richest countries in the world when it comes to potential demographic dividend. The operative word here is ‘potential’. As many countries face a decline in their working-age populations, our labor pool of nearly 600 million with a median age of around 29 is clearly an advantage. By 2030, it is projected that one in five working-age individuals worldwide will be Indian! As wonderful as that statistic is, it’s not all great news. Let’s review some other research data - about 20 percent of the country’s labor force is skilled, and more than three-quarters of Indian engineers lack basic spoken English skills making it so hard for them to thrive in a global knowledge economy. About 12 million of these job seekers aim to join the workforce every year, but jobs for all are hard to come by. It's a big challenge that we face, as a country and as a rising economic power. And it needs big focus from big thinkers, corporations, change drivers and policy makers - in a big come-together - to start to make even the smallest positive difference. That’s why, earlier this week, we announced the Infosys Springboard Livelihood Program by Infosys Foundation with the aspiration to create half a million jobs in India by 2030! To realise that ambition, we are bringing together a robust ecosystem of like-minded partners to create opportunities for the country’s youth towards sustainable livelihoods and careers. The program will offer support towards specialised industry - ready skills on cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning as well as functions like digital marketing and finance, all geared towards bridging the skills and employment gap. This targeted approach is already working and the program has placed over 80,000 youngsters in new jobs across industries in FY25. It took a whole proverbial village to make it happen! Thanks to our nearly 20+ implementation partners such as ICT Academy Nirmaan Organization AKRSP-India and several more – for dreaming the dream with us and working to make it real.
