Live from Geneva where the World Meteorological Organization is holding its 79th edition of its Executive Council: our President Patrick BENICHOU tirelessly promotes our integrated and DBO approach to deliver efficient projects that meet the needs of the UN #EarlyWarningsforAll initiative!
UNDRR AND MFI SHARE VIEWS ON EARLY WARNINGS FOR ALL On the sidelines of World Meteorological Organization Executive Council in Geneva, I had the honour and pleasure to exchange with Kamal Kishore , Special Representative of UN Secretary General for Disaster Risk reduction. Both United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) (as a key pillar of the implementation of the UN #EW4All initiative) and Meteo France International (MFI) (promotor of an integrated approach over the full Early Warning / Early Action value chain) shared views on how to secure a timely, effective and sustainable implementation of the UN initiative. As time is flying for all, especially for the most vulnerable countries, it is time to join forces on how innovative business models like Public-Private-Engagement Design-Build-Operate could become a standard for a fraction of EW4All projects. UN Organizations like UNDRR, WMO, International Telecommunication Union may be instrumental for capturing the interest of Member States for such an integrated approach and ultimately advise development partners to align their financial mechanisms accordingly. [VIGICLIMM Project – Improving aviation safety] ✈️ Meteorology and aviation safety are closely linked, and most of our global projects include the strengthening of observation equipment at airports. The 𝗩𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗠 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 is no exception to the rule and, with our partner DEGREANE HORIZON, we have planned to install 2 AWOS (Aviation Weather Observation System) in two major Ivorian airports, located in Bouaké and San Pedro. ✅ Last Wednesday, and after 2 weeks of intense preparation and civil engineering work to adapt the AWOS installation site, we were able to successfully sign the Site Acceptance Test of the equipment with SODEXAM Côte d'Ivoire’s teams, in the presence of nabil nouni, expert appointed by World Meteorological Organization. In parallel to these installation activities, we also carried out a specific training session for SODEXAM’s agents in order for them to gain full autonomy in the use and maintenance of this new observation equipment. 🙏🏼 We want to thank Jean-Louis MOULOT (General Director of SODEXAM) and kouegbe hubert bie (Bouaké Airport Commander) for their unwavering support throughout this AWOS installation operation. Big up also to our own team who worked tirelessly to make things happen! We now look forward to the second installation in San Pedro Airport which is planned for next September! [COLLABORATION – SAUDI ARABIA] 📆 Last week, we had the honour to welcome in Toulouse a 4-people delegation from the المركز الوطني للأرصاد National Center for Meteorology of Saudi Arabia, led by its Vice-President Jumaan Al-Qahtani, accompanied by experts from the consulting firm Deloitte. 🌦️ The NCM is currently studying the possibility of engaging in a strengthening process of its service offer towards weather-sensitive economic sectors, and its capacity to market some of these services. 🎯 The visit to our headquarters and Météo-France’s operational center aimed to assess the relevance of a collaboration with MFI regarding this project. During this 2-day trip, NCM representatives had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with MFI's approach, discover our information systems through interactive demonstrations and learn more about our references, including those in the Middle East with our achievements in Qatar and Kuwait. 🙏🏼 We thank NCM for their interest and hope to be able to quickly join forces with them in a constructive and lasting partnership! [EARLY WARNING / ARGENTINA] ✨ It is always a great source of satisfaction for us to observe the organizations we have supported through a common project, carrying out their missions brilliantly thanks to the solutions and expertise we have provided them. ⛈️ This is what happened last weekend in Argentina where we have been working since 2017. The country was hit by extreme rainfalls causing severe floods in the North of Buenos Aeres’ province, mainly in the cities of Zárate and Arrecifes. During this extreme episode, expert forecasters of Servicio Meteorológico Nacional -Argentina- were able to rely on MFI’s early warning solution 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗢𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 to issue the necessary and timely red warning required by the situation. This allowed local authorities (including Civil Security services) as well as population to prepare and take appropriate protective measures to limit the impact of this severe meteorological phenomenon. 📣 This event once again underlines the 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 in protecting people and goods while reducing the impact of extreme weather. Our long-term collaboration with the Argentinian National Meteorological Service illustrates how innovation and expertise can come together to make a tangible difference in the face of climate change and multiplication of severe weather events. [VIGICLIMM PROJECT – Capacity building program] 👨🏼🎓 Our capacity building programs are always structured around 2 major phases: factory training at the beginning of the project, usually organized in our headquarters in Toulouse, and onsite training on our customers’ premises, once the project is well advanced. 🚀 We have reached this stage for the 𝗩𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗠 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 and have had the pleasure to organize the first onsite training last week, in Abidjan! The one-week session was dedicated to our universal 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗢𝗕𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗧. It gathered staff from SODEXAM Côte d'Ivoire’s headquarters, as well as representatives from regional offices. 🌱 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟯𝟱! Knowing that the Factory phase already included 21 sessions, this gives a good idea of the central and crucial position of Capacity building within the 𝗩𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗠 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, seen as the best way to ensure its long-term efficiency and sustainability. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Well done Meteopress! All participants, including World Meteorological Organization and Météo-France's experts, were impressed by the capacities of SODEXAM Côte d'Ivoire's future radar! We are looking forward to the on-site implementation of this high-end equipment which is going to be a real asset for meteorological observation in Côte d'Ivoire! @Christophe Périard Abdesslem Djeha Michal Najman
This Tuesday, we hosted a special Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for Meteo France International and their customer SODEXAM Côte d'Ivoire. After a warm welcome at our HQ in Prague, we moved to our factory in northern Czech Republic, where — at the customer's request — we prepared a special outdoor version of the FAT. We even built a purpose-built temporary substructure outside to showcase live radar performance and conduct a full sun calibration. We’re proud to share that our state-of-the-art 1° beamwidth, 10kW Solid State C-band weather radar passed all tests with flying colors. Next stop: Abidjan, Ivory Coast! A big thank you to our team, Meteo France International, and SODEXAM for the collaboration and trust. #Radar #WeatherRadar #FactoryAcceptanceTest #Innovation #Meteopress
