[PRESS RELEASE] 📢 Terma to Deliver 32 New Coastal Surveillance Radars to Denmark. We’re proud to support the Danish Defence with 32 next-generation coastal surveillance radars that will enhance maritime security, protect critical infrastructure, and improve situational awareness using AI-enabled data fusion. “This agreement reflects Terma’s enduring commitment to Denmark’s sovereignty and security. We are proud to deliver solutions that strengthen national resilience and safeguard our maritime domains,” says Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, CEO of Terma. Deliveries will take place in 2025–2026. For people outside the Space sector, it’s hard to understand how concrete the term “fail safe” really is. In space – as well as defense systems – failure is simple not an option.  Not meant in the trivial business jargon kind of way.  But meant as litterate as you can possibly imagine.  A failing power supply, a failing communication system on a satellite is catastrophic. Failure here means, that the mission is lost, pouring sometimes millions of dollars down the drain, and thousands of man-hours out the window. 🌩️ Ever heard of a “blue jet”? It’s a rare type of lightning that shoots upward from thunderstorms all the way toward space. Last week, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut Nichole Ayers captured the clearest photo ever of a gigantic jet from the International Space Station (ISS), spotted over Sabinas, Mexico. These powerful bursts race through the atmosphere at up to 145 km per second, glowing bright blue from excited nitrogen particles. At Terma, we’re proud to have led the consortium that developed the Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor (ASIM) - a European Space Agency - ESA mission mounted on the Columbus module of the ISS. ASIM continuously monitors rare atmospheric events like blue jets, red sprites, elves, and haloes - flashes so fast and high they’re almost impossible to catch from Earth.
