Last week, we had the pleasure of visiting some of our incredible startups under the #ThousandYoungEntrepreneursProgram in Nairobi, and what an inspiring experience it was! Our first stop was at Zuri Packs, founded by the innovative Oliver Omondi. Growing up in the Kibera slums, Oliver saw the environmental toll of plastic waste firsthand. Today, he’s turning the tide by converting banana fiber into eco-friendly carrier bags. What’s even more powerful? He’s involving the local community in the production process, creating jobs, reducing waste, and driving real change from the ground up. The goal is to expand operations, create more employment while conserving the environment. Next, we visited Mobylocs, led by the dynamic Beatrice Njeri, whose passion for sustainability is equally compelling. With over 10 years of working experience in the beauty industry, Beatrice saw firsthand the menace of synthetic hair waste to the environment. Beatrice is tackling synthetic hair waste by recycling it into dreadlocks, a solution that’s both creative and impactful. Her workshop in Eastlands is currently empowering #30 women with jobs and skills, with plans to scale even further. What also stood out for us is their different ways of #collaboration in various aspects of their business. We are not just empowering entrepreneurs but also creating a community where they can collaborate, scale and grow. Both startups are shining examples of how circular economy models can uplift communities while protecting our environment. It was truly inspiring to witness their work and their commitment to youth and women empowerment. We're proud to walk alongside them on their journey of impact and innovation!
