Using custom field contexts
- Before we move on from custom fields, there's one more thing I wanted you to know. You can use fields differently between multiple Jira projects without needing to duplicate fields. A custom field context determines field use and visibility between different issue types on different Jira projects. This allows you to use the same custom field in multiple ways without the need for multiple fields. To best explain this, I'll call it a field scope. Here's the configuration for the strategy custom field we created in a previous section. When you create a new custom field, the default is to make the field available to all issue types and Jira projects. If the field isn't going to be used Jira-wide, we can set a smaller scope, which is good for application indexing and performance. To set or edit a field scope in cloud, go to the Custom Fields admin page, click the ellipsis next to a field and select Contexts and default value.
