- Next, we'll discuss field configurations and field configuration schemes, which determine field behavior in Jira projects. Field configurations provide additional options for controlling standard and custom fields. Use them to set a field level description to help users when providing information, to determine whether a field is hidden or visible, to determine whether a field is optional or required, and for text fields, specify the type of renderer, meaning whether a text field accepts plain text or wiki markup content. Field configurations have a name, an optional description, and individual settings for standard and custom fields. Like other areas of Jira, field configurations belong to field configuration schemes which are used to map field configurations to issue types. A Jira project has one field configuration scheme which contains one or more field configurations.
