“Clayton was our lead investor for from 500 Startups, batch 26 program. I had an unusual experience of applying and getting accepted to the previous batch batch 25 through a different project, but ended up leaving that project before the batch 25 program because I realized where my real passion lies. When I explained to Clayton why I left the previous project, he showed an incredible amount of understanding, mentorship, and encouragement, very much to my surprise. He was with me for the entire time, as I transitioned to build out the prototype of Trash Warrior, and he encouraged me to apply to batch 26. I am sure many will be comparing 500 Startups with Y Combinator. After experiencing 500 Startups myself, and seeing close friends experiencing Y Combinator at the same batch, I feel lucked out for choosing 500 Startups. At 500 Startups, the entire batch worked in the same co-working space throughout the program, and had daily and well programmed events + classes on growth, product development and fundraising. As a first time founder, I learned so much from these classes, made many meaningful connections through the 500 network (including hiring our sales advisor, hiring our marketing guy), found our lead pre-seed investor, got the best perks for many Saas tools we need, and made long lasting relationship with my batch mates. Such experience is only possible in this smaller and well-thought-of program at 500 Startups. I was presented with a tremendous amount of resources, and I felt all the staff at 500 Startups was supportive and accessible. I remain to be really grateful for Clayton, and for his colleagues at 500 Startups - all the venture partners helped us greatly, the program manager Maura was also great. ”
