Annually, over 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated, with the majority either burnt or sent to landfill. Protonera, a technological discovery from the University of Cambridge, tackles this issue with a novel chemoenzymatic photoreforming process. Potentially being "one of the most exciting and disruptive technologies to impact the chemical industry in decades," shares Margaret Wilkinson, Commercialisation Director at Cambridge Enterprise.
