Across democracies, the global center-left faces a common challenge: how to rebuild trust with working people. Yesterday in London, the Progressive Policy Institute and Labour Together brought together leaders and strategists including former Rep. Tim Ryan, Baroness Deborah Mattinson, Claire Ainsley, Lord David Evans, and Matthew Upton for a conversation on center-left renewal. The discussion featured new research from Mattinson and Ainsley, analyzing voter attitudes in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Germany. Their findings highlight a clear imperative: to win, center-left parties must show they believe in voters and can deliver for them.

About us
PPI's mission is to define and promote a new progressive politics for America in the 21st century. Through its research, policies, and perspectives, the Institute is fashioning a new governing philosophy and an agenda for public innovation geared to the Information Age. PPI's mission arises from the belief that America is ill-served by an obsolete left-right debate that is out of step with the powerful forces re-shaping our society and economy. The Institute advocates a philosophy that adapts the progressive tradition in American politics to the realities of the Information Age and points to a "third way" beyond the liberal impulse to defend the bureaucratic status quo and the conservative bid to simply dismantle government. The Institute envisions government as society's servant, not its master -- as a catalyst for a broader civic enterprise controlled by and responsive to the needs of citizens and the communities where they live and work. The Institute's work rests on three ideals: equal opportunity, mutual responsibility, and self-governing citizens and communities. Building on these cornerstone principles, our work advances five key strategies to equip Americans to confront the challenges of the Information Age: * Restoring the American Dream by accelerating economic growth, expanding opportunity, and enhancing security. * Reconstructing our social order by strengthening families, attacking crime, and empowering the urban poor. * Renewing our democracy by challenging the special interests and returning power to citizens and local institutions. * Defending our common civic ground by affirming the spirit of tolerance and the shared principles that unite us as Americans. * Confronting global disorder by building enduring new international structures of economic and political freedom.

Today, alongside our partners at PPI, we hosted a private lunch for Parliamentarians to discuss the lessons for UK Labour from centre-left parties across the world from research undertaken in the UK, US, Germany and Australia. Expertly led by two Progress magazine authors, former Congressman Tim Ryan and Baroness Deborah Mattinson, attendees heard insights on PPI's new research on how we must evolve and grow as progressive centre-left parties to ensure that we win office and deliver for working people. Thank you to our MPs and AM Damien Egan, Alex Barros-Curtis, Luke Akehurst, Kirsty McNeill MP, Zubir Ahmed, Graeme Downie and Anne Clarke for attending and sharing how this key mission translates across your constituencies and the wider PLP. Another big thank you to our friends at PPI, Lindsay Lewis, Claire Ainsley, David Evans, Jolie LiBert, Ian O’Keefe and Stuart Malec for producing this research and sharing it with us all. It informed some vital discussions this afternoon that will undoubtedly continue as we cooperatively work towards an internationally strong and electable centre-left. Sharing PPI's just-released report: Antitrust’s Death Knell for Amateurism and College Sports: A March Madness Case Study. It is the first analysis to assess the sea-change in college sports around NIL and is based on data from the March Madness men's Division 1 tournament over the last decade. The results are eye-opening and reveal much about what to expect in the wake of the House v. NCAA settlement. We need a federal legislative solution to protect student-athletes and retain a "modern" version of amateurism in intercollegiate athletics! https://lnkd.in/ghBFrup2
