European partnership on accelerating farming systems transition – agroecology living labs and research infrastructures

About us

The Agroecology Partnership, funded by Horizon Europe, unites the European Commission and 72 partners across 26 Member States, Associated Countries, and Third Countries will support an agriculture sector that is fit to meet the targets and challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, food security and sovereignty, and the environment, while ensuring a profitable and attractive activity for farmers. The Partnership in particular pools the resources of the EC and the states involved to fund high-level research generating appropriate knowledge and technologies aligned with the core themes described below and in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda.

🎥 Biodiversity isn’t just something to protect, it’s something to build our farming systems around. The current agri-food system is failing biodiversity, with conventional farming driving much of its global decline. But there is another way. 🌱 Agroecology is a food system approach that works with nature. It usies biodiversity to enhance food production, build resilience, and regenerate ecosystems. In this 5-minute film, meet the farmers and researchers across Europe who are transforming their landscapes and livelihoods through agroecological practices demonstrating how biodiversity and farming thrive together. 🌍 This film is the first in a series telling the story of Agroecology-TRANSECT, a four-year EU-funded project exploring how agroecology can support people, climate and the planet. Thanks to Bertrand Dumont, Elisa Oteros Rozas, Walter Rossing, Maria Van Boxtel, Julie Kloetzli and more and a hat tip to the brill team Transfixus Creative #Agroecology #Biodiversity #FarmingWithNature #FoodSystems #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateAction #EUResearch #AgroecologyTRANSECT

Yesterday, we visited the inspiring SlowGrow Farm and learned about their innovative Mosaik farming approach. High on-farm biodiversity, mulching, controlled traffic, and mixed cropping form the backbone of their regenerative methods. But what really sets them apart is how they adapt and engineer their own machinery and work with innovators like Raptrac AG to handle these complex systems — efficiently and at scale. What’s even more impressive is that their cereal and vegetable production thrives without pesticides, irrigation, and hardly any fertilizers (synthetic or organic)— proving that investing in soil health and biodiversity pays off. For me, this is a living example of what the future of agriculture could and should look like. Looking forward to our future collaboration to advance the agroecological transition in the #SUNRISE project. Thanks to Matthias Hollenstein Petrissa Eckle and Anna Salomé Perret for sharing their approaches and experiences. #SoilHealth #Agroecology #InnovationInFarming #FutureOfFarming #SlowGrow #SustainableFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture AGROECOLOGY Partnership

#SaveTheDate | Can policy makers drive truly transformative change if they only consider conventional scenarios for the future of agrifood systems? 💻 “Participatory foresight for sustainable agrifood systems through agroecology”organized by FAO, #CIRAD and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH in close collaboration with Rythu Sadhikara Samstha, Department of Agriculture of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India); ISRA BAME; the Agroecology Coalition and the Foresight for Food Initiative, will unveil the outcomes, findings, and tools of the Foresight for Agroecology project, setting the stage for transformative action. Bringing together global, national, and regional leaders from the agroecology and foresight communities, this webinar will be a dynamic platform for exchange. Participants will explore how foresight can help co-design concrete pathways for the agroecological transformation of agrifood systems. Objectives ✅ Present and launch key outcomes of the Foresight for Agroecology project; ✅ Facilitate knowledge exchange between global foresight experts, agroecology practitioners, policymakers, and local stakeholders; ✅ Share actionable pathways to integrate agroecology into foresight processes and foresight into agroecological initiatives at multiple levels. ✅ Foster collaboration between foresight and agroecology communities, linking research with implementation and policy change.
