About us
We are Stonewall: a leading LGBTQ+ charity working to make the world a safe and equal place for LGBTQ+ people to live, work and thrive. Stonewall is part of a vibrant, growing and global movement advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Over the last 35+ years, we have helped create transformative change in the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the UK. Our work has driven positive change in public attitudes and public policy and there are now over 3000 LGBTQ+ organisations across the UK. We deliver campaigns, programmes, and policy work that is focused on achieving deep, sustainable change, through convening, collaboration, and conversation. We support parliamentarians and lawmakers; design policies and campaigns and deliver programmes and services which focus on achieving equal rights for LGBTQ+ people. Globally, we face increasing opposition to the belief that everyone deserves equal rights. It is more important than ever that we stand firm and advocate for what we know to be true: Everyone, everywhere, deserves equal rights. Find out more at www.stonewall.org.uk. 🌈 Last night our CEO, Simon Blake OBE and our Vice Chair visited Number 10 to celebrate #Pride Month and mark 50 years of London Friend, LGBT Foundation and Switchboard - National LGBTQ+ Support Line, alongside the Prime Minister. Pride has always been about celebration and protest. Moments like this at the heart of Government are important for visibility, particularly right now. It was good to have an opportunity to discuss the progress needed on LGBTQ+ rights directly with the Prime Minister, and highlight the turbulence and uncertainty facing the LGBTQ+ community, both at home and globally. A core pillar of our new strategy is shaping policy and legislation, this means working with MPs and Parliamentarians to drive lasting change. There may be fewer pride flags blowing in the wind now that June is over, but you won't need telling that the need for awareness and action remains! Despite enormous progress being made over the last few decades, there is still an enormous amount that needs to be done to achieve equality for ALL LGBTQ+ people, and in particular for trans and non-binary people. We have seen very clearly that progress is not linear and neither is it inevitable. in 2015 we topped the leader board for LGBTQ+ rights in Europe. A decade later we have dropped 22 places. We all want the UK to be a leader in LGBTQ+ rights. And we at Stonewall will keep working until ALL LGBTQ+ people have the equal rights, freedoms and protections under the law, and are able to live their lives free from prejudice, discrimination and fear. Achieving this will require all of us to keep showing up, keep learning, keep educating, keep learning, keep understanding and using our respective power and platforms, and being allies to everybody in the LGBTQ+ community. I have written this piece for Attitude Magazine UK as we launch our new strategic direction https://lnkd.in/eGFtuiw2 You can find out more about our strategy here https://lnkd.in/eAvKtDC4 #LGBT+ #Equality

🌈 In turbulent times for our community, we have launched our new strategic direction: In courage and unity, is hope. Our new strategy has three pillars, and we had three launches to reflect that! We were proud to be at Pride in London marching in the parade, hosting a stall, and hearing from our CEO Simon Blake OBE who spoke to the crowd about how we're adapting to meet the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people today. We brought parliamentarians together in Parliament to talk about our new direction and how we can work together to shape a policy and legislative agenda that improves the lives of LGBTQ+ people. And finally, we used our focus on Inclusive Places to launch Proud Employers at the London Stock Exchange, alongside the equalities minister Nia Griffith and business leaders committed to championing LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion. 💜 Our vision is of a world where everyone, everywhere, has equal rights. We will work until every person who is LGBTQ+ is living free from discrimination, prejudice and inequality, making our shared future safer, fairer and more prosperous. 🌈 This time last week we were at Pride in London launching our new strategic direction and refreshed visual identity. Our CEO, Simon Blake OBE, spoke to the crowds from the main stage, thousands of people came to our stall and we had a brilliant time marching through London in protest and pride. This year #Pride felt more needed than ever, and we were reminded that the journey to LGBTQ+ rights has always been hard, but that as a community we are resilient. The feedback to our new direction has been incredible, and we are more ready than ever to meet the challenges facing LGBTQ+ people today. We're in turbulent times but we know that courage, unity and hope will carry us through. Find out more ▶️ https://bit.ly/44wkkz9

Last night we celebrated the launch of our new strategic direction for Stonewall with a market close event at the London Stock Exchange hosted by the very brilliant Pippa Dale. Thank you to our Chair, Catherine Dixon and Minister for Equalities Dame Nia Griffith for brilliant speeches. The team has worked incredibly hard and it was very special to celebrate the launch of our three year strategy, ‘In courage and unity is hope’, our new brand and our renewed workplace LGBTQ+ inclusion programme, Proud Employers with colleagues, collaborators, ambassadors and supporters. We had guests from every sector, every industry, every country in the UK as well as Uganda and the USA. There are too many people to thank individually for their part in the journey to get here, but you know who you are. Thank you. Enormous thank you to everyone who attended, to the teams at LSEG and Stonewall who made everything happen and special thanks to Julia Hoggett for her unwavering commitment to inclusion for everyone. In publishing our new strategy I have very definitely passed the baton from the 15 year old me that took hope from the courage of Stonewall’s founders to step up and say everyone deserves equal treatment under the law to the 51 year old me who has the privilege to lead Stonewall. The 51 year old me who is committed to ensuring we do not allow another generation to grow up with the discrimination and fear so many in our community have, and that we do not live in a society where some people are treated more equal than others. 👏 This #Pride we marked the launch of our new strategic direction - ‘In courage and unity, is hope’ - at the London Stock Exchange for its market close ceremony with business leaders and Equalities Minister Griffith Nia MP. As part of our new strategic direction, we launched our re-imagined workplace inclusion programme: Proud Employers. Inclusion matters, now more than ever. Proud Employers will support organisations in LGBTQ+ inclusion and enable them to demonstrate their commitment to employees, clients and customers. The launch comes as a new YouGov poll showed under half (44%) of the UK public believe that current employment rights aimed at ensuring LGBTQ+ people are treated equally in the workplace get the balance about right. 🌈 It was inspiring to be joined by so many business leaders and organisations who believe inclusive workplaces matter. It was encouraging to hear Minister for Veterans, Al Carns, reaffirm the Government's commitment to financial recognition for #LGBTQ+ veterans who were dismissed or suffered abuse when serving in the British military. LGBTQ+ veterans were promised compensation back in December 2024, but very few people have actually received it. Stonewall, amongst others, has long campaigned for this and we are pleased that the Government has now said it'll be making changes to the scheme to ensure people get compensation for the suffering they endured. We're committed to making legislative change that makes a difference to the lives of LGBTQ+ people, donate today to help us continue 👉 https://bit.ly/43c0ppW
