In workspaces where AI has been disabled, certain UI changes may appear slightly different than what is outlined in this article.
What’s changing in Airtable’s UI
As Airtable shifts to support a more AI-native platform we are taking the opportunity to update the way that the in-base experience looks. You can read more details in each section of the article below, but here are the general changes:
The largest change is a left sidebar where you can access Omni, our new AI assistant, as well as the help menu, notifications, and account settings.
There are also some changes to the way base appearance coloring will render.
You will notice a few changes to the Automations tab / page
Lastly, there are some smaller changes to the following entry points:
Understanding the new left sidebar
Iconography | Surface |
---|---|
The “Back to home” button has moved slightly left into the left navigation bar for easier access. | |
The Omni icon is now part of the left navigation, providing direct access to the conversational AI. Omni combines the power of AI assistant and Cobuilder in one convenient location. | |
You’ll also find that the help menu, notifications, product switcher (Enterprise Scale), and your account menu is also located in the left sidebar now. Previously, these entry points were located in the upper right corner of a base. |
Changes to base coloring
In the past, base appearance coloring was a bit more prominent. We’ve lightened things up a bit in the data layer to keep things a bit more straight-forward. However, we have not changed the way that interface coloring appears. Here’s a run down of where in-base appearance coloring will show up now:
Base icon
Table bar
Share button
Omni AI icon/animation
Changes to the upper right corner
We’ve cleaned up the entry points located in the upper-right corner of bases. The following entry points were previously a little further to the left in an open base, but are now located firmly in the upper-right corner:
App library (Enterprise Scale only)
Base history
Share button
Changes to the center navigation
The Data, Automations, Interfaces, and Forms buttons are all now center aligned in an open base. Previously, these used to be more left-aligned on the screen. We also removed a perpendicular line break that used to appear in between Interfaces and Forms.
Changes to the tools menu
In the past, the Extensions entry point was located next to the Tools menu. We’ve moved the extensions entry point into the tools menu dropdown.
Changes to the view bar
In the view bar, you’ll notice that the various view options have moved to be right-aligned on the page. The following entry points will now appear this way:
Hide field button
Filter button
Group button
Sort button
Color button
Row height button
Share & Sync button
Additionally, Create new… button moved from bottom of the panel to upper-left side panel. This does not expand anymore. Instead, you’ll see a pop out menu where you can create a new view, form, or view section.
Changes to the automations page
On the Automations page, the “Create…” section is now at the top, rather than the bottom of the left sidebar and appears as + Create new…
This button reveals a menu where you can choose to Create automation, Create section, or Browse automation catalog >.
It no longer shows automation using AI assistant as an option. However, you can open up Omni to have it help you create an automation.
Additionally, there is no longer a “Suggested for you” section.
The toggle on/off switch is now above the left sidebar, instead of left of center (above active build window)
We also added the text ON or OFF within the toggle to make it more clear what state the automation is in.
