  • 🌏 Strengthening ASEAN’s Clean Energy Future The ASEAN Power Grid is driving regional energy integration and cross-border electricity trade to support the shift toward renewables. But diverse national power systems bring big technical challenges. Grid-forming technology—with advanced inverters that maintain voltage and frequency—offers a powerful solution. 🔌 Stabilises weak grids 🌱 Supports higher renewable energy use ⚡ Enables black start (self-recovery) capabilities 🛡️ Enhances resilience during disasters As ASEAN moves toward a more sustainable and connected energy future, grid-forming systems will be crucial in building a robust, resilient power network. • ☀️ Powering Progress: Can Solar Drive India to Net Zero?⚡ India has pledged to cut emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2070. A cornerstone of this effort is solar energy, supported by abundant resources, proactive policies, and strong market momentum. States across India have shown what’s possible — and the solar sector is gaining global traction. But despite its promise, solar alone may not be enough. Land, storage, and infrastructure challenges remind us that the path to decarbonisation needs a broader, more integrated approach. 🔋 Can solar carry India all the way to net zero — or does success lie in a diverse energy mix? • 🌍💡 How are companies preparing for a low-carbon future? As the world ramps up efforts against climate change, leading companies are leveraging internal carbon pricing (ICP) to factor carbon costs into their business decisions. This approach drives emissions reductions and boosts readiness for evolving carbon policies. Our latest policy brief explores ICP strategies at Microsoft, BHP, and Société Générale, highlighting key insights and outcomes. Plus, we take a closer look at ICP adoption in Singapore’s business landscape. Click here to read other publications: https://lnkd.in/gGmSbxUW

  • On 6 May 2025, the NUS Sustainable Futures Forum will mark the launch of NUS Sustainable Futures, a whole-of-university effort to drive sustainability research and education and develop innovative solutions for climate challenges, particularly those impacting Asia. A partner event of Ecosperity Week 2025, the forum will feature 4 panel discussions on exciting research topics, from emerging energy technologies and climate-resilient agriculture to sustainable urban solutions and capacity building.   The Energy segment of the Forum is titled: Advancing Grid Modernisation and Renewable Energy Integration for a Sustainable Future. The panel will feature ESI’s Prof PS Lee as the moderator, and Dr Bin Su as one of the panelists. The panel will discuss modernising grid infrastructure, integrating distributed and renewable energy resources, leveraging new technologies and addressing regulatory, economic and social aspects, while emphasising the importance of cross-sector collaboration.   Please visit the link for more details about the NUS Sustainable Futures Forum. https://lnkd.in/gQdN24UA

  • Join Us for the Closing Workshop on Carbon Pricing Strategies! 🌍💡 Carbon pricing has emerged as a key policy instrument to drive climate action globally. Since the early 1990s, countries have implemented various carbon pricing schemes—ranging from carbon taxes to emissions trading systems—demonstrating its cost-effectiveness and flexibility. Beyond government policies, many businesses are also adopting internal carbon pricing to guide their sustainability strategies. Over the past three years, the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) has been conducting a research project, Carbon Pricing Strategies of Other Key Economies, analyzing global experiences in both government-led and business-led carbon pricing initiatives. This workshop marks the culmination of our study, where we will present key insights on: ✅ The motivation behind adopting carbon pricing schemes ✅ The design and implementation of these schemes ✅ Their economic and environmental impacts Join us to gain valuable insights into how Singapore can enhance its carbon tax policy to achieve both climate and economic objectives through comparative case studies and empirical analysis. 📅 Date & Time: 26 March 2025 (Wednesday), 09:00 – 13:30 📍 Venue: Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Riverview, Level 4, Jubilee Ballroom 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gH43j9qm We look forward to your participation! #CarbonPricing #ClimatePolicy #Sustainability #EnergyStudiesInstitute #ESI
