🌍 Collaboration is crucial to reduce social inequalities in health. Dr. Raffaella Bucciardini, lead of the Social Inequalities work package, emphasized this at our Katowice meeting: ▪️ Early identification of sustainability elements in pilot projects ▪️ Developing Theories of Change to guide monitoring and identify best practices ▪️ Working closely with the evaluation and sustainability work packages to ensure a cohesive and effective approach. Addressing social inequalities requires shared knowledge, capacity-building, and a long-term perspective — key priorities for JA Prevent NCD. #JAPreventNCD #SocialInequalities #HealthEquity #Collaboration #PublicHealth #SustainableHealth

While some risk factors such as tobacco use and hypertension have declined, rates of obesity and diabetes continue to rise—and physical inactivity remains unchanged. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of vital public health policies has slowed significantly. A new joint Comment published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe highlights these urgent challenges and calls for a renewed European agenda. The Comment was co-authored by JA PreventNCD, JACARDI, WHO Regional Office for Europe, OECD - OCDE, and EU Health and Food Safety. It draws on the findings of the new WHO Europe report: Avoidable mortality, risk factors and policies for tackling NCDs: leveraging data for impact. The Comment underscores the need to: – Strengthen cross-national collaboration – Accelerate the implementation of proven public health policies – Build equitable, integrated health systems – Improve accountability through better data and monitoring Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dyNWRzGG Benedetta Armocida MD, PhD Knut Inge Klepp, Hans Kluge European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) The Lancet Group #NCDs #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #HealthPolicy #EU4Health #JAPreventNCD #JACARDI #WHOEurope #OECD #DGSANTE #ChronicDiseases #Lancet

Great insights from the JA PreventNCD annual meeting in Katowice! This post captures an important takeaway from discussions on health literacy and the need for mutual understanding in healthcare. 👇
Beyond health literacy: Building a two-way street in healthcare In modern healthcare, it's not enough for patients to understand information— we also need healthcare professionals who understand their patients. This is where three key concepts come together: 📘 Health Literacy – Patients' ability to understand and use health information 🤝 Shared Decision Making – A collaborative process for making informed, values-based decisions 🧠 Patient Literacy – Providers' ability to understand patients' backgrounds, values, and needs These aren’t isolated ideas—they work best together. When patients are informed and heard, and clinicians are equipped and empathetic, we move toward truly patient-centered care. Communication is not a one-way challenge. This is my take-home message after a productive session at the annual JA PreventNCD meeting in Katowice. 🚨 Powerful workshop moments from Katowice! Check out the Danish WP8 team’s engaging session on future dilemmas in NCD prevention — thought-provoking, energizing, and original. 👇 Watch the video and get inspired!
🧭 Clock is ticking: Non-communicable diseases are on the rise. YOU hold the power to intervene and change the future. This was the theme of the JA PreventNCD workshop invented and held by Danish team (WP8) in Katowice, Poland this week, 16.-17. June 2025. The following future scenarios with built-in dilemmas were presented: 🔮 A tech company offers the government access to anonymized, aggregate data from a majority of the citizens’ wearable fitness trackers. Do you accept their offer and on which terms? 🔮 The EU’s Health Data Space 2.0 promises disease prevention breakthroughs—but can a single ID linking all personal data be used without risking privacy and security? 🔮 To prevent NCDs, the EU proposes collecting genetic data from birth—but can an opt-out biobank protect trust, privacy, and individual choice? Each dilemma had 3 optional answers with a consequence, leaving food for thought afterwards. You then you realize there are no ideal answers – perhaps only the “less bad”. A big thank you to our brave and engaging participants 🙌 — even though you were at the mercy of the crazy Danes who designed this workshop 😄 (yes, we really did take away all the chairs so you had to stay on your feet!) — you played along brilliantly, and we couldn’t have asked for more👏✨ .... *the scenarios in the video are fictional* Morten Givskud | Morten Frydensberg | Emil Høstrup | Trine Sørensen | Nanna Ellegaard Jørgensen | Nanna M. "When you speak to everyone, you reach no one." Strategic communication is essential to delivering the right message, to the right audience, at the right time. Last week in Katowice, we gathered a dynamic group to workshop ways to strengthen the JA Prevent voice through strategic communication. Together, we addressed challenges across our four key thematic areas: tobacco, physical activity, nutrition, and alcohol. This experience reinforced a vital lesson: truly understanding your audience—who they are and what matters to them. A message aimed at everyone ultimately resonates with no one. #StrategicCommunication #PublicHealth #NCDPrevention #JAPreventNCD #HealthAdvocacy European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) JACARDI Great teamwork: Anita Thorolvsen Munch, Sólveig Karlsdóttir, Freyr Gudlaugsson, Hugrún Snorradóttir, Rafn Jonsson, Cristina Cebrián Méndez, Annlaug Selstø, Taija Voutilainen, Eva Uličná, Hanna Ollila, Laia Muns Ulla, Lluís Pascual i Vidal, Paolo Contiero, Orsolya Tompa PhD, Mette Svendgaard Høgholm, Peder Ringnes Berrefjord, Charlott Gyllenhammar Nordstrøm, Laufey Frida Gudmundsdottir, Jyrki Niemi, Nora Strommer
