Strong, unwavering support for Ukraine and its people at the Recovery Conference 2025 in Rome. Our delegation, led by president Nadia Calviño and Vice-President Teresa Czerwińska, confirmed the EIB Group’s determination to stand side by side with Ukrainians, supporting the recovery and reconstruction of their country. That’s why during the Conference, alongside our European Commission partners, we have signed nearly €600 million in new financing for: 🔵critical energy and transport infrastructure, to restore hydropower plants, upgrade municipal district heating systems, repair roads and bridges, and improve border crossings 🟡local small and medium-sized businesses, through dedicated loans and EU-backed guarantees provided to Ukrainian banks. We are also supporting: 🔵exports from EU companies to Ukraine, with ten Member States joining the InvestEU Ukraine Export Credit Pilot 🟡project preparation through the new Ukraine FIRST programme, developed in partnership with the EBRD and the European Commission. These agreements reflect our commitment to building hope and opportunity in the country: helping communities rebuild, keeping homes warm, and nurturing local business. How can the EIF help SMEs tackle today’s challenges? 🤔 Last week, we asked for your vote. This week, we want to share how we’re working with European businesses to meet these challenges head-on. Together with our partners, we aim to: ✅ Unlock access to finance through a broad range of tools, like private equity, venture capital, loan portfolio guarantees, microfinance, securitisation and private credit. ✅ Drive forward the Savings & Investment Union by promoting cross-border investment and financial activity, bringing European businesses closer together. ✅ Boost growth opportunities for start-ups – helping retain talent and scale impact, through programmes like #TechEU and #ETCI. ✅ Strengthen Europe’s innovation base with programmes such as #InvestEU. Why does this matter? Because tackling tomorrow's challenges requires today’s innovation. Too often, our most promising startups leave the continent – or are acquired by non-European buyers – just as they’re ready to grow. And that’s exactly what the ETCI was set up to change. Since its launch in 2023, it has channelled over €2 billion into large-scale funds helping European tech scale with purpose – and stay anchored in Europe. This is the result: European tech champions, backed on home soil, taking on the global market – while creating value at home. This map is just one snapshot of what’s possible.
