📉 Is the EU doing enough to strengthen institutions that promote gender equality? EIGE’s latest data says: not quite yet. Our new analysis of institutional mechanisms for gender equality across the EU shows progress is too slow and uneven. While some countries are stepping up, others still lack effective structures, strategic plans, resources and processes needed to turn commitment into action. 🔍 Key findings: ▪️ Overall strength of institutional mechanisms across the EU is only at half the possible level. ▪️ 1 in 3 Member States lack an active and measurable gender equality action plan alongside a system for reporting ▪️ Decline in efforts to commit and implement gender mainstreaming ▪️ Resourcing is weak – many bodies operate with fewer than 10 staff working in gender equality ▪️ Gender statistics are still patchy, especially when it comes to dissemination Want to know more? 🔗 Explore the full data via our Gender Statistics Databases Data Talks: https://lnkd.in/e4jw3MtK

The recent Council of Europe resolution ( https://lnkd.in/egXWKUKq ) promotes gender equality, accessibility, and inclusion - aiming to create parliaments where women and men of all diversities are equally represented and can influence decision-making. It encourages measures to support MPs and staff in balancing responsibilities, fostering safe, inclusive workplaces free from discrimination and violence, and integrating gender perspectives into all parliamentary work. These goals align with EIGE’s efforts to support parliaments in becoming gender-sensitive - ensuring representation, influence, and a culture of equality. Our Self-Assessment Tool helps parliaments evaluate progress in these areas and develop targeted measures - key to mainstreaming gender and building truly inclusive institutions. Additionally, the Gender Equality Action Plan tool offers practical steps for setting concrete actions towards equality. Together, these tools help parliaments achieve the potential impact of the resolution: more democratic, inclusive, and responsive institutions for all. Young people are full of potential, but their opportunities are not always equal. From an early age, gender stereotypes shape how girls and boys see themselves and their future paths. These expectations can limit girls’ confidence in science and technology, and discourage boys from pursuing roles in care and education. Girls often face additional pressure to conform to narrow roles, making it harder to access opportunities in high-demand, tech-driven sectors. On World Youth Skills Day, we recognise the need to create space for all young people to grow, learn and choose their future freely. #YouthSkillsDay

Area F of the Beijing Platform for Action reminds us: women’s economic independence is key to gender equality. Things are moving forward, but barriers still exist for many women – from care responsibilities to underrepresentation in key sectors like ICT, energy and transport. 📣 The EU is now preparing a Quality Jobs Roadmap to improve access to fair, inclusive and supportive employment. 👉️ You can help shape it.
