CLS will lead the UK Age 8 Pilot of Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE), a major European initiative to create internationally-harmonised data for research on child development and wellbeing. Funded by the ESRC: Economic and Social Research Council, the pilot will test the feasibility of GUIDE in the UK context, and provide recommendations to potential funders of a future full-scale study. The UK pilot will be led by Professor Lisa Calderwood, CLS Managing Director, in partnership with Co-Directors Prof Jennifer Symonds of UCL and Prof Gary Pollock of Manchester Metropolitan University. Centerdata, an independent research institute in the Netherlands, are also part of the leadership team. Find out more on the CLS website: https://buff.ly/gI6P3gA

Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE) as the first pan-European, cross-nationally comparative, longitudinal study of child wellbeing, will give us the evidence we urgently need to track these complex issues and to shape responsive, inclusive policies across generations. One-off snapshots are no longer enough. The findings shared today reinforce the need for research that can track trajectories, not just outcomes. Let’s ensure that policy is powered by evidence that evolves as our children do.
Thank you for the opportunity to speak at the webinar organised by WHO/UNICEF on the recent published fact sheets as the evidence base for the new WHO Euro Strategy on Child and Adolescent Health and Well-being (2026–2030) and present the factsheet on Adolescent Mental Health. Children and adolescents across Europe and Central Asia are facing growing health challenges—from rising obesity rates to declining immunization and mental well-being. In response, WHO and UNICEF are developing a new Regional Strategy for Child and Adolescent Health and Well-being (2026–2030). Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE) partners in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland launch the UNIFAMN project website. The UNIFAMN project, funded by NordForsk aims to enhance the resilience, future crisis preparedness, and well-being of families across Nordic countries through a collaborative network of experts, continuous comprehensive data analysis, and establishing innovative research. Leveraging the Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE) European study, which examines children’s and families’ well-being through a comparative child cohort using harmonized instruments, UNIFAMN forms a Nordic network to examine and promote Nordic families’ resilience, future preparedness, and well-being. The vision of the project is to build and monitor a resilient and future-prepared Nordic region where families thrive, supported by robust social policies, and informed by cutting-edge research and expert insights, and continuously monitored for improvement.
