🎙️ “Nuclear - fission and fusion - is a good way to produce electricity with no CO₂; we have to stop the CO₂ thing, and that’s why nuclear is coming back up. In Europe, in the mid-term, there is a place for the development of Small Modular Reactors just near data centers. We have to optimize two things: the layout and the integration of data centers in the electricity systems.” For the first time, NUWARD participated at Viva Technology as a speaker, during the roundtable: “AI, Nuclear and the Quest for Limitless (Clean) Energy”. Our Executive President, Julien Garrel, took the stage alongside leaders from ITER Organization and General Fusion to discuss how nuclear innovation, especially Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), can accelerate the global energy transition. The discussion tackled: ⚡ The surge in electricity demand driven by AI 🌱 The critical role of nuclear in delivering sustainable solutions 🌐 The global necessity to develop nuclear projects and notably SMRs With NUWARD, alongside large-scale nuclear power and renewable energy solutions, we aim to contribute to achieving Net Zero by offering a new pathway to low-carbon, competitive, and resilient energy systems for Europe and beyond. #VivaTech2025 #VivaTechnology #VivaTech Michel Laberge Laban Coblentz @Chris O'Brien

Our teams had the opportunity to visit the Gravelines Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Northern France, as well as the Dunkirk Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal operated by Gaz-Opale. ⚡ The Gravelines NPP, with its 6 Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR), alone meets up to 70% of the electricity needs of the Hauts-de-France region. Meanwhile, the LNG Terminal stores up to 600,000 m³ of liquefied methane at -163°C, delivered by LNG tankers. 🎯 Located just 5 kilometers from the LNG Terminal, the Gravelines NPP produces large amounts of heat, which is transported in the form or warm filtered water to the terminal via a tunnel. This allows the terminal to convert liquid methane at -163°C into gas. 🌐 The visit allowed NUWARD experts to understand the interface challenges between the power plant and the Dunkirk LNG Terminal, study the maintenance methods of the installations, and grasp the benefits of this cogeneration. ✅ This Learning Expedition was very enriching for the NUWARD and EDF teams. We had the chance to exchange with the NPP and Gaz-Opale teams, who emphasized the importance of close relationships between the operator and the end user. These exchanges will be taken into account in our design studies and will benefit NUWARD SMR. Thank you to the NPP and Gaz-Opale, Dunkerque LNG SAS, Fluxys teams for their warm welcome and insightful exchanges.
