🛳 Marella Explorer sets a record for female officers at Marella Cruises in summer 2025 🙌 This summer, the number of female cadets at Marella Cruises has increased with a total of eight women beginning their training on board. 👋 Among them: Agnieszka, Milena and Emily, three cadets with different paths, but a shared sense of purpose. 50% of our bridge team is now female. And that’s not a headline, it’s a direction. "We aim for all-female bridge crews in the future," says Joel Hipple, Head of Marine Operations at Marella Cruises. ✨

Say hi to Ryan, our Head of Operations at TUI Airline. We caught up with him to learn more about his role and what makes it so unique – check it out. 👇 🕓 A typical day? "No two days are ever the same, but I usually start early with a review of overnight performance, then spend the day aligning with crewing, ground ops, and customer service to keep everything running smoothly. It’s a blend of strategic planning and real-time problem-solving." ⚡ Favourite thing about airline ops? "The energy is electric. Managing 100,000+ flights a year is no easy feat. Whether it’s launching a new customer experience initiative or dealing with a major disruption, there’s a real buzz when the team pulls together." 🏆 Proudest moment? "Managing multiple diversions into Lanzarote during severe winds. It was high pressure, but the teamwork was incredible – every flight recovered, every customer looked after. That’s when you see the power of collaboration." 🛫 Describe your job in aviation lingo: "Flight Director in Mission Control – constantly monitoring the radar, adjusting the flight plan in real time, and ensuring every system is go for departure." 🧳 Cabin or cockpit if you weren’t in ops? "Cabin, 100%. It’s fast-paced, people-first, and full of little moments that make a big impact." 💡 Advice for aspiring ops professional? "Be curious, stay calm under pressure, and appreciate the value of teamwork. Learn how every piece of the journey connects." 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘙𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘦?

🌍✈️ About 15,600 tonnes of CO₂e avoided in just one week: For the first time ever, TUI has successfully completed a groundbreaking pilot project to avoid warming contrails across its entire flight network of the German airline. Over one week, more than 300 flights were analysed, and 96 were actively rerouted to prevent the formation of long-lasting warming contrails. Key Result & What We Achieved: ✅ Net saving: around 15,600 tonnes of CO₂e* (plus 60 tonnes of CO₂ from detours & minus 15,664 tonnes of CO₂e from avoided contrails) ✅ Strong engagement from our Dispatch team and pilots – with 71 feedback responses received from the flight deck. ✅ Developed an in-house analysis tool aiming to provide pilots with feedback on their contrail impact within 48 hours. 🔜 What’s Next: Another full week of contrail-avoidance flights planned for summer 2025 – even wider in scope. We want to scale it up and to include other TUI Airline entities and international partners. Huge thanks to our partners who made this milestone possible – Breakthrough Energy , Contrails.org, Flightkeys GmbH, and everyone at TUI who contributed their expertise in this meaningful change in aviation. ❓ Background information: Contrails – those thin white streaks that airplanes sometimes leave behind – don’t always disappear quickly. Under certain conditions, they turn into high-altitude clouds that trap heat and contribute to global warming. *compared to aviation activity in the same time period without any contrail avoidance flights. #Aviation #ContrailAvoidance
