Unlocking Faster Visualizations in CJA

Unlocking Faster Visualizations in CJA

If you’ve been working in Adobe Analytics for a while, you’re likely no stranger to the challenges of selecting the right visualizations and building reports from scratch.

As analysts, our goal is to spend more time analyzing insights, not exhausting hours just gathering data points and figuring out how to represent them effectively, often before we can even start investigating outliers or potential data issues.

For a one-off report, this might not feel like a major hurdle. But when you're tasked with building multiple visualizations across several metrics and dimensions, it quickly turns into a time-consuming process that can stretch into hours or even days!

With all the continuous improvements Adobe releases, you’d expect a streamlined solution by now, right? Well guess what?

Adobe listened and they have delivered!

After reading Taylor Baker 's post, I was excited to try out the 'Data Insights Agent' in Customer Journey Analytics.

What is Data Insights Agent?

The Data Insights Agent is a new AI-powered assistant in Customer Journey Analytics that helps you create charts and tables just by typing your question in plain language..

Instead of dragging and dropping dimensions and metrics manually in Workspace, you can just ask a question like “Show me revenue by region for last month” and the AI will automatically build a chart or table for you.

It works inside the AI Assistant chat panel in CJA and helps save time by doing the heavy lifting of building visualizations for basic analysis so you can focus more on interpreting the data instead of setting it up.

Explain some of the things that 'Data Insights Agent' can and cannot answer.

First, let's take a look at things it CAN DO:

  • Build basic charts and tables: You can ask it to create line, multi-line, bar, donut charts, summary numbers or freeform tables. Example:Show profit by SKU from February to May.”
  • Adjust visualizations on the fly: You can add new metrics or tweak date ranges through follow-up prompts without starting over. Example: “Add profit” after an initial revenue-by-region chart".
  • Ask clarifying questions: If your prompt is ambiguous ("region" or "last month" isn’t clear), it will ask for more detail. It won’t ask about data views or how granular you want the data, only about the table/chart components.
  • Ensure accuracy: You can verify exactly which metrics, dimensions and date ranges were used by inspecting the table or chart.

Now, let us look at this it CANNOT DO at the moment:

  • Create advanced visualizations: No flow diagrams, cohort tables, scatter plots, histograms, Venn diagrams or Treemaps. It’s limited to the basic charts listed above such as bar and line graphs.
  • Perform workspace actions: You can’t use it to export files, share projects, manage preferences or change data views. If you give such a prompt, it will lay out steps explaining how to do these yourself.
  • Provide narrative insights: It won’t summarize the data, point out anomalies, flag trends, or offer high-level insight in text form. It simply builds the visual.

Can 'Data Insights Agent' aid in other things other than building visualizations?

Not right now. The current version of the Data Insights Agent in Customer Journey Analytics is designed only to help you build basic visualizations and freeform tables using simple prompts. Its main job is to save you time by creating charts and tables based on what you ask.

So while it’s a great tool for speeding up your visual analysis, it’s not yet built for deeper insights or storytelling.

Is the feature currently available to all customers?

As mentioned in Adobe's official documentation, "The functionality is available to all eligible customers as part of a phased release beginning May 28, 2025 and might not be available yet in your environment".

Additionally, Data Insights Agent is available to eligible customers for a limited time. Access to Data Insights Agent will end on November 30, 2025. To continue using this feature without interruption, you will have to reach out to your Adobe account representative to learn more about licensing Data Insights Agent.

Share some best practices when crafting prompts.

Since the tool is powered by generative AI, the way you phrase your question can affect the output. Even small changes in wording can lead to different results.

To make sure you're getting the most accurate and helpful visualizations, here are some simple tips:

  • Be specific: Use clear, targeted language. Example: “Sales of product ABC for last month” gives better results than just “Product performance
  • Include key details: Mention exact metrics, dimensions, segments and date ranges. Example: “Revenue share by device type in the last quarter.”
  • Ask direct questions: Framing your query as a clear question helps guide the AI. Example: “What is the average revenue by marketing channel this year?”

Adobe also provides a list of sample phrases to help users see how prompt structure impacts the output. Because it's generative, the results may vary slightly even with similar prompts but the more specific you are, the better your output will be.

The 'Data Insights Agent' marks a significant step forward in how analysts interact with data inside Customer Journey Analytics.

By allowing you to create charts and tables through simple prompts, it removes many of the manual steps that traditionally slow down the analysis process. While the feature is still evolving and has some limitations, it already offers a faster, smarter way to explore data.

As Adobe continues to enhance its AI capabilities, now is a great time to start experimenting with the Data Insights Agent and unlock more time for what really matters: analyzing insights that drive business decisions.

Thank you for the insightful breakdown of this new feature, Poornima Thakur! Data Insights Agent feels like a powerful bridge, helping business users uncover value in CJA without needing to master Workspace right away. I understand the questions of AI replacing the need for analysts, but I see it differently: when business users can explore on their own, it actually frees analysts up to go deeper, supporting evolving use cases and more strategic insight. Excited to see how this shifts the landscape!

Wondering if slowly we are moving towards no analyst required anymore stage? If an AI agent is able to generate the dashboard then in time they will be able to generate insights better than humans as well. What are your thoughts on this?
