Press Release: Intertek ready to support with Mozambique’s mandatory import requirements

Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide and Mozambique’s sole authorised conformity assessment body, will support exporters to the country with adherence to new mandatory conformity assessment regulations.

Mozambique’s Conformity Assessment Programme, in accordance with Decree Number 8/2022 of 14 March 2025, ensures that imported goods meet national and international quality and safety standards, protecting Mozambican consumers and enabling smooth, compliant trade.

Since 27 June 2025, all regulated products exported to Mozambique must be accompanied by a valid Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued by an authorised body, as announced by the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), which falls under the Republic of Mozambique’s Ministry of Economy.

Intertek is appointed by Mozambique’s National Institute of Standards and Quality – or Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade (INNOQ, IP) – to support the country’s Conformity Assessment Programme. In this role, Intertek carries out the conformity assessment process as well as the issuance of CoCs for all Mandatory Control Listed products, in accordance with Diploma Number 29/2024 of 20 May 2025, prior to export into Mozambique.

All listed products on Mozambique’s Mandatory Control List must comply with the specified requirements with a valid CoC. Non-compliance could result in warnings and severe financial fines imposed by INAE, as well as the possible re-export or destruction of the imported goods. Importers should therefore inform their exporters with regards to meeting compliance requirements when exporting to Mozambique to ensure smooth customs clearance.

This continued trust by INNOQ, IP – the recognised central body responsible for defining and implementing quality policy and for coordinating all standardisation and quality activities at national level – emphasises Intertek’s ongoing commitment to supporting businesses to trade with assurance worldwide.

Intertek’s well-established global presence and decades of trade expertise ensure that businesses are thoroughly equipped with the knowledge and support they need to successfully meet the necessary compliance regulations, enabling them to trade with assurance in accordance with the internal regulations of INAE.

Jérémy Gaspard , Vice President, Government and Trade Services, Intertek, said: “As the trusted and sole conformity assessment body, Intertek remains fully committed to supporting INAE in implementing the enforcement of the Conformity Assessment Programme – ensuring that Mozambique’s consumers are protected from sub-standard products and can buy imported goods with confidence.”
