My Next Step

My Next Step

I’m excited to share that after having had the pleasure of getting to know Guild Education over the past two-plus years as an enthusiastic fan, investor and Board Member, I am joining the Guild team in a full-time capacity as President. (and I’m hiring!)

Even as someone who considers himself to be a devout prototyper and a voracious gatherer of data, this may well be the most well-informed decision I’ve ever made… here is why I’m doing it:

To work on a defining challenge of our time: As the grandson of Jewish immigrants for whom a commitment to education was foundational and as native Detroiter throughout the economic upheaval of the late-’70s, ‘80s and early-’90s, the data particularly is stark (at least to me). Dramatic action is needed to meet the nation’s need for talent. The top job categories throughout the country, Truck Drivers, Cashiers and Retail Sales Workers - are rapidly on a path to automation - a trend which could displace a third of the US workforce by 2030. Meanwhile student debt just keeps growing.

To make real impact at rapidly increasing scale: Guild is increasing economic mobility for working adults by partnering with the largest employers in the country to offer education as a benefit to their employees via a marketplace of nonprofit universities and education institutions. Fast Company recently named Guild as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies and we've raised over $70 million from top tier investors including Felicis Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Redpoint Ventures (among other social impact and VC partners!).

To work with an exceptional team led by Rachel Carlson and Bijal Shah and enhanced by the opportunity to reunite with some wonderful Craftsy colleagues (Chandler, Matt, Ed, Becky, and Charity)

...want to join us? I’m hiring for a Chief of Staff… and we have TONS of other open positions. Please reach out if you’d like to learn more!

Congrats Josh - what an exciting step to be part of such a powerful and vital mission! Best of luck to you and the whole team. I've applied for a Director role and there are also other openings that align with the value I would bring. Can you point me to the right person to learn more and get a dialog going? Thanks!
