Nvidia Invests Big in European AI

  • At VivaTech, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced plans to open 20 AI factories and expand across seven European countries. The company is launching its first industrial AI cloud platform in Germany and partnering with Mistral on a new computing platform. Huang called for “sovereign AI” and projected a 10x increase in Europe’s AI capacity within two years.

Meta Targets Superintelligence with $15B AI Push

  • Meta is reportedly investing $15 billion to pursue AI superintelligence, aiming to outpace rivals like OpenAI and Google. The deal includes a 49% stake in Scale AI, led by Alexandr Wang, and signals Meta’s shift from its struggling Metaverse bet to more aggressive AI ambitions. Superintelligence refers to AI that can outperform humans at all tasks, a milestone experts say remains distant. Critics urge greater transparency and public collaboration in AI development, calling for a “CERN for AI” to ensure trust and accountability.

When Do People Trust AI? It Depends on the Task

  • A new MIT-led study shows that people’s attitudes toward AI depend on context, not just tech optimism or fear. Analyzing over 80,000 responses, researchers found that people prefer AI when it’s seen as more capable than humans and when the task doesn’t require a personal touch, like fraud detection or data sorting. But for decisions that feel personal, such as hiring or healthcare, people still want a human involved.
