Survive and Thrive: Navigating the New Normal of Natural Disasters ==> There are no "natural disasters" — only natural hazards. The disaster occurs when a natural event affects something to which we've assigned value or expectations, and we're unprepared. It's not nature that causes the disaster, but our vulnerability to these events. Adapting to the "new normal" means reducing that vulnerability, not just observing how natural events are becoming more intense and frequent, but understanding why we continue to suffer their impacts.
