3 Steps to Access "The Power of LinkedIn Recommendations"
Cause your social proof should shine like your new outfit 👕
I take one of my own as a great example of recommendation for LinkedIn, which demonstrates the calibre of my work, and recommendations from those who truly understand and value what I do are what really sets it apart.
Beyond just listing services, their words give credibility and confidence. These suggestions, in my opinion, are genuine evidence of my worth and are similar to personal testimonials.
You can gather a good amount of social proof for yourself by following these procedures. Also, don't say no when someone asks for a recommendation. Since LinkedIn is a medium for establishing professional connections, you will eventually gain something from it as well.
So, How to Ask for Recommendations?
1. Be Specific About What You Want
I’ve made sure to highlight my skills and experience in each recommendation so they genuinely add value to my profile.
Example: Hi [Name], could you please write a brief recommendation highlighting our work on [specific project]?
2. Choose the Right People
All of my recommendations come from people who truly know my strengths, like colleagues, mentors, and clients I’ve worked closely with.
Example: You might ask a former colleague to comment on your teamwork and leadership skills.
3. Personalize Your Request
The people who’ve recommended me have seen firsthand how I shared my expertise and delivered real value.
Example: I really enjoyed working with you on this project and learned so much from your experience.

How to Give Great Recommendations (and Get Noticed Back)
Giving value is often the fastest way to get it back. When you write thoughtful, story-based recommendations, people are more likely to return the gesture.
- Mention a specific result they helped create.
- Add one standout trait (e.g., “She made the process feel effortless even under pressure.”)
- Avoid fluff, make it a micro-case study.
Example: “Ravi led our re branding sprint with clarity and speed, thanks to him, we launched our new website 2 weeks early. Highly recommend working with him if you value fast decisions + clean design.”
Pro Tip: What NOT to Do
- Don’t send bulk generic messages like “Can you endorse me?”
- Don’t wait till you need a recommendation; nurture the relationship in advance.
- Don’t leave your profile recommendation-less for years, keep it updated just like your portfolio
Pro Tip: What to Do
- Take 10 minutes this week:
- Send 2 thoughtful recommendations.
- Request 1 specific, warm ask from a past client or colleague.
- Update your profile headline to reflect your current offer — so the recommendation context makes sense.
