🌍 Today, on International Day of the Midwife #IDM2025, we honour the unwavering dedication of midwives who stand as pillars of strength in every crisis. From conflict zones to climate-affected areas, midwives are often the first—and sometimes the only—health professionals accessible to women and newborns. They provide essential care, support, and hope, even when resources are scarce and challenges persist. At VSO, we've witnessed first hand the resilience and impact of midwives across our programmes. During the recent Regional Health Promotion Conference 2025 #RHPC2025, co-hosted with Ministry of Health, Kenya Health Promotion-Kenya, the indispensable role of midwives in crisis preparedness and response was emphasized. Discussions centred on integrating midwifery services into health systems to ensure that, even in the most challenging times, #nooneisleftbehind. Despite their critical contributions, midwives often remain under-recognized and under-resourced. It's time to make a radical change and appreciate their work. 👉 Let's advocate for: ⭐ Increased investment in midwifery education and resources. ⭐ Inclusion of midwives in health policy and crisis response planning. ⭐ Protection and support for midwives working in high-risk environments. By empowering midwives, we strengthen communities and build more resilient health systems. #IDM2025 #HealthforAll #UHC #RHPC2025 #Intersectionality #SDG3 Coalition for Women's Health in Africa (COWHA) International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
