Three quarters of Gen Z say they are more worried about climate change than they were a year ago and nearly two thirds are interested in working in a green job in the next five years. Yet we are at risk of this generation not having the skills they need to power the transition to net zero. 🧩New findings from LinkedIn today show just 1 in 20 Gen Z has green skills – compared to 1 in 8 in the wider workforce – and only 1 in 5 have very good awareness of how to access green jobs. ❇️With two thirds of Gen Z interested in green skills training, there is a clear appetite for targeted, tailored skills programmes to bring them into this booming area of jobs — with green hiring continuing to outpace global hiring averages, as companies put in place the changes needed to meet their climate commitments and make the most of the green transition. 🌱The drive and willingness is there from this new generation of workers, and it’s up to all of us across business and government to leverage that passion and tap into the potential of young professionals to drive the green transition. #green #genz #futureofwork

🌿 61% of Gen Z workers want a green job in the next five years. But here's the kicker: only 1 in 20 actually have the green skills needed. Talk about a skills gap, right? It's wild to think that while 3 out of 4 Gen Zers are super worried about climate change, less than 20% see a clear path to green careers. But here's some good news—green jobs are growing like crazy! Almost twice as fast as other jobs requiring green skills. It's not just on Gen Z. We as employers need to step up too. We've got to show how different roles can make a climate impact, not just the obvious sustainability positions. So, I'm curious—how is your company helping bridge this green skills gap? Are you offering training? Highlighting the sustainability aspects of different roles? Let's chat about it in the comments! Remember, tackling climate change isn't just for "green" jobs anymore. We all have a part to play. Let's help Gen Z (and everyone else) get the skills they need to make a difference! 💚🌍 What do you think? Is this hitting home for anyone else? #greenjobs #genz #sustainability #climateaction #workforceSkills #workforcedevelopment #cleanenergy https://lnkd.in/g6bTBfx5

Surprising new statistics on the sustainability jobs market! LinkedIn research reveals that while many GenZ workers aspire to careers in sustainability, only 1 in 20 currently have the necessary skills, and fewer than 20% see a clear path to those roles. This gap persists while roles in sustainability are growing almost twice as fast as the number of workers with skills to match. To bridge it, job seekers can explore online courses, graduate programs, and online platforms. Employers are also stepping up with green skills training. It's high time to empower the next generation to lead in climate action! Gen Z want to learn skills to work on climate. But they don't necessarily know where to start. Fewer than 20% say they see a clear path to a climate job. One way to grow this number is to widen the aperture of how we think of a green job. As Adele Peters writes in her Fast Company article, "for the world to succeed in decarbonizing the entire economy, arguably every job should be considered a green job." If Gen Z is only thinking about a green job as one that is in renewable energy production or has "sustainability" in the title, they're going to miss many of the in-demand jobs that can have a sizable positive climate impact. Green skills are increasingly relevant in these jobs that we haven't traditionally thought of as green. Showing Gen Z how these jobs contribute to climate action will help Gen Z know what skills to learn to deliver impact and access economic opportunity. #climatechange #GenZ #climateaction #greenjobs #greenskills

If you’re under 30, there’s a good chance that you want your next job to focus on climate change. However, a new analysis from LinkedIn finds that only one in 20 Gen Z workers have the green skills needed for those jobs, and few know where to begin. The majority of Gen Z workers say that a lack of green jobs is the biggest barrier they face. But that’s a misperception: The number of green jobs is quickly growing, from renewable energy to roles at climate tech startups. In a previous report, LinkedIn found that the number of green jobs was growing almost twice as quickly as the overall number of workers with green skills.

I had the pleasure of attending Sarah Steinberg's (Head of Global Public Policy Partnerships at LinkedIn) talk during the #ActionDays at the #SummitOfTheFuture, and it highlighted some key insights about Gen Z and their passion for climate change and green jobs. 🌍💡 🌱 Gen Z’s Ambition: It's incredible to see that 61% of Gen Z workers aspire to work in green jobs within the next five years. They view climate change not just as an existential threat but also as an economic opportunity. 🛑 The Challenge: The biggest hurdle is the skills gap. Despite their ambition, only 1 in 20 Gen Z workers have the green skills needed for these critical roles, compared to 1 in 8 for the entire workforce. This gap limits both their economic prospects and the planet's progress. 📈 Green Skills in Demand: The demand for green talent is growing twice as fast as the supply, and job seekers with green skills or titles have a 55% higher hiring rate than the overall workforce. These skills are crucial across sectors and are key to economic mobility for Gen Z and the transition to a green economy. 🔑 The Call to Action: Employers, policymakers, and educators must come together to provide the tools and opportunities Gen Z needs to turn their passion into action. LinkedIn is committed to providing the data and insights needed to make this transition a reality. Gen Z is ready to lead the green transition—they just need the right support to get there. 🌎 #GenZ #GreenJobs #ClimateChange #Sustainability #GreenSkills #EconomicOpportunity #FutureOfWork

According to LinkedIn’s new Global Green Skills Report 2024, demand for green talent is far outpacing supply. In fact, between 2023 and 2024, global demand for green talent grew twice as quickly as supply—up 11.6% vs. a 5.6% increase in available talent. For job seekers, the advantage is clear. Those with green skills or titles see a 54.6% higher hiring rate than the workforce average. And in some regions, like the U.S. and Ireland, this rate jumps to over 80% higher. This isn't just a trend; it’s a powerful shift shaping the future of work. Green skills aren’t only a moral asset—they’re a career accelerator.
