Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras and Leader of the Labour Party. Former Director of Public Prosecutions.

'I don't think we'll ever be able to get our own place'.     I heard that constantly after 14 years of Tory failure on housing.     I don't want to hear it again.     My Labour government is delivering the biggest boost to social and affordable housing in decades.

A year -still blaming the Tories! Shocking, be a man and take ownership of your mess!

To bridge the unaffordable property gap, a possible idea could be for government to partner with construction companies to provide cost price housing with no profit mark up for a percentage of their stock built? Incentives could be provided by non-financial means for construction companies that sign up, for example, being able to display a badge or cert for reputational purposes (increasing the chances of gaining more business and providing additional work opportunities for start ups & the company being ranked as preferred if they bid for govt construction projects). Contractual stipulations could then be added when purchasing the house, that the housing built (whether flat, house or bungalow) can only be sold for cost price + inflation (since it was built), cannot be rented and will only be for people that don’t already own property. To ensure the stock goes to those in need, this could also potentially be means tested based upon value of the property. This would hopefully mean continued affordable housing into the future, and allow more people to get a foot on the ladder. Especially in places like London, where the cost of housing seemingly far outstrips wages in most instances due to perceived property value.

Ah yes, because nothing says ‘hope for home ownership’ like a man who spent four years opposing rent caps, dodging commitment on housebuilding targets, and then suddenly discovered affordable housing—about five minutes before the election. What's next, Keir? Promising unicorns for every council estate?
