🗞️ The latest edition of The Talent Blueprint is available now! This month, we're diving into the importance of human skills in the era of AI and automation. Despite their importance, many of us still call them "soft skills," which we believe undermines their importance. Because after all, essential skills are anything but soft. Join the conversation in the comments section below and remember to subscribe to The Talent Blueprint to get notified every time we release a new edition. With contributions from: Tina Millis, Shane Little, Kirsten Tolfree-Dart and Marc Burrage.

It’s just another PR model under diskised, at the end it all comes down to the human interaction.

I fully agree that so-called soft skills — or better, essential human skills — are fundamental to building strong, future-ready organizations. While they can be learned, they often require more time and effort than technical skills. Developing leadership, critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and a life-long learning mindset takes intentional practice. That’s why I believe talent acquisition should prioritize soft skills. Technical abilities, though important, can — and should — be cultivated within organizations through training and experience. This human-centered approach is far more effective at driving innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth than focusing solely on traditional résumés or academic backgrounds. Solid education and experience still matter — but they are not enough. The future belongs to those who can adapt, learn, collaborate, and lead — and to the companies that invest in developing these capabilities.

The irony: We already know the solution to the skills shortage crisis. The question is whether enough organizations will act on it. Love this post, thanks!

Agree with Shane on the importance of the so called soft skills Collaboration, communication and critical thinking thus making them essential skills not the soft skills. Technical relevance is important however having the soft skills in addition to the technical skills will lay a path for growth. Have seen recent past most of the employers are trying to use the behavioural assessments using the online tools available. However, the answers are available across the internet and the objective for having these assessments getting defeated. This makes having the inperson interviews to assess the behavioural skills is more relevant.

Una adaptación con esfuerzo constante al entorno con los medios disponibles, escuchando las ideas de los demás, lleva a potenciar las habilidades y convertirlas en destrezas, generando un equipo con soluciones eficaces.

"Necessary skills" and "Essential skills". I like how that sounds I think the first ones can be upskilled by anyone, but the second ones are different for everybody. They're more related to talents, behavior, and who you are as a person. You can develop them over time, but many of these skills are deeply rooted in your personality and take much longer to master.

I thought problem solving was AI core strength. Another “go with the flow article” that sends people down the same lane just like a herd. The only skill that humans need to be successful at work and life is empathy. The more we look the same the more AI can automate.
