EU in Emergencies’ Post

🔥 As wildfires begin to impact multiple countries across Europe, EU solidarity is once again in action on the ground. In Greece, Bulgarian firefighters worked side by side with their Greek counterparts in Halkidiki to contain the flames. In France, Romanian teams have joined local responders near Perpignan to help tackle a wildfire. These deployments are part of the EU’s summer wildfire preparedness, which has positioned nearly 650 firefighters from 14 European countries in high-risk areas across France, Greece, Portugal, and Spain. In addition, 22 firefighting airplanes and 4 helicopters are stationed in 10 Member States, ready to support national efforts whenever needed. Coordinated and co-financed through the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism, these resources are designed to help mitigate risks and enable a faster, more robust emergency response. Together, we act faster, stronger, and more effectively. ➡️ Learn more: https://europa.eu/!8hQrd6 © IGS Romania © Bulgaria Civil Protection

Thank you to all the Bulgarian firefighters who are currently supporting their counterparts in Europe. And thank you to all the firefighters who are or will be fighting wildfires this summer. To the European governments, it is your responsibility to take political action to limit global warming. Otherwise such collaboration between firefighters won't be possible anymore as they will all be busy fighting wildfires in their own country.
