EU Environment and Climate’s Post

Last week, Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra visited the #InnovationFund project ACCSION, who is pioneering onshore carbon capture and storage in Denmark. By helping decarbonise a hard-to-abate sector like cement production and build vital infrastructure for CO2 storage, this project is driving progress towards climate neutrality. 🌍 📉

Cementir Holding N.V., Air Liquide and #EU Leaders met for #decarbonization in Denmark! 🌍 Air Liquide was pleased to be invited by Cementir Holding Group to join in welcoming Wopke Hoekstra, EU commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth and Danish minister for Green Transition, Jeppe Bruus Christensen, for a pivotal visit to ACCSION – our large-scale onshore carbon capture project! 💡This visit highlighted CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and the European Innovation Fund's crucial support for ACCSION, underscoring its role in accelerating the energy transition and decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries. With Air Liquide's proprietary Cryocap™ technology, we aim to capture and purify approximately 95% of CO₂ emissions from cement kilns, preventing 1.5 million tons of CO₂ emissions per year. ACCSION will decarbonize cement production and pave the way for a more accessible and affordable onshore CO₂ storage network. This collaboration between industry and policymakers is vital for a climate-neutral Europe.🤝 “Funded by the European Union.
