Seizing a FSMO role

- [Speaker] So we know that transferring a role from one domain controller to another is very easy. When both domain controllers are up and running and can communicate with one another. But what happens if the domain controller that's hosting one of these roles has gone down? Let's say we've completely lost that domain controller. Well, what do we do? Well, what we do in that instance is we do something called seize the role when you can't nicely transfer the role. So let's take a look at this. First thing I want to show you, I just want to show you it's up on my screen. It says here the virtual machine DC-1 is turned off. Okay, I just wanted you to see that, that I've shut down DC-1. There is no communication to it. Now let's go ahead and jump over here to DC-2. Here in the Server Manager, I'm going to go up to Tools. I'm going to select Domains and Trusts.
