Building line graphs
- [Instructor] Line graphs are a great way to show time series data. In this example, let's look at sales by month to see if we can uncover any seasonality within our data set. To give you context, I'm looking at the reports view of Power BI and I've connected to the data source of the exercise files, then built a data model combining the data sources. So the first step is to select sales data which is amount including tax. Then we can select purchase date. So now we can see sales over time. But this visualization is not really what we're looking for. Well, number one, if you select a data point that's numeric in a visualization, Power BI is going to automatically create a bar chart. We can very quickly change this by selecting line graph. So now this is looking quite a bit better. But you may notice that the aggregation is not right.
