Defining the theme, main ideas, and structure

- You have a story idea ready to go, which is wonderful. So now it's time to think through the details. We'll start with the theme of your story. You can think of the theme as the main topic or the overarching category that helps us understand how your story applies to life. There's no doubt as you think through the event you've identified that you could articulate multiple themes. However, for the purposes of planning, writing and performing your story, focus is what matters. So one clear theme is usually the best approach. In a leadership context, there are many examples of themes that are relevant. For instance, your theme might be decision making, relationships, motivation, teams success, integrity or one of many other possibilities. Then with this main category or idea in place, you can now identify the key points that will support your theme and bring learning to life. The main points are ideas, rules or behaviors…
