Using column charts to visualize trends
- [Instructor] Now let's compare the line charts to other charts that work with time intelligence. There are quite a few of these type of charts built into the standard visual offerings within Power BI and each have their own strengths and drawbacks. The type of chart we select often really depends on what the end user is looking to learn from the visual, especially in tandem with other visuals. Let's create a cluster and column chart with the same x and y-axis fields and the five West Coast states as the legend. This chart enables us to see the trend by state like the line chart. However, I personally find the clusters of colored bars are hard to compare over time periods. This is especially true if we add just a few more categories to the visuals. Another thing to note is the column chart is essentially a rotated version of the bar chart. We more commonly hear the term bar chart but this visual name we see in Power BI…
