From the course: Microsoft Fabric Data Flows and Data Storage

What you should know

- [Instructor] Fabric is located within the Power BI tenant. You'll need a Power BI tenant to use Fabric. You can create a free one and use that for this course. If you're adding Power BI to your existing tenant, you'll need to make sure that Fabric is available in that tenant. To find out, go to the question mark, then About Power BI, and look at where your data is stored. You'll need to validate this against the locations that Microsoft supports Power BI. It supports most but not all data centers. While it is possible to contact Microsoft and have your Power BI tenant moved, you may need to recreate all of your workspaces. To activate the Fabric trial from within Power BI, select on your account, and then select the Start trial button. This will allow you to upgrade to a free Fabric trial preview. And we've successfully upgraded, so we're going to go ahead and select Fabric Home. If for any reason you do not see that button, you may need to activate your Fabric trial from within the admin tenant, but you should be able to access it here. You will see a pop-up message window letting you know that this can take 15 minutes for this change to apply. In my experience, it rarely takes that long. When you are within Fabric, you can always go back to Power BI by selecting the Fabric icon. Here you'll see all the different options that are available to you. When you go to Power BI, it may start out looking like this, and you can change it to Fabric by clicking on this icon and selecting Microsoft Fabric. Now, since we are doing all of this in Azure, you may be wondering, how much is this going to cost us to use the resources for this course? Well, this is a free Power BI account, so there's no cost here, and the Fabric trial is also free. If you are not using the trial, there are three things you're going to have to purchase to take the course. The first is a Power BI tenant. The minimum cost for this one is $10 a month. You'll also need to purchase Fabric compute costs, and this is done via the Azure tenant. There are a number of different options. For this class, I recommend pay-as-you-go and being diligent about turning off the resources. The next thing you'll need to allocate in Azure is the separate storage cost, which is approximately $26 a terabyte. All of these costs are estimates based on the information Microsoft has included on their website. You'll find that within the pricing calculator. You may be able to get a better deal by contacting your Microsoft representative.
