Goodbye: The final conversation
- It may seem counter-intuitive, but right before the customer leaves is actually a great time to start a new conversation. Of course if you're only interested in a one-time transactional relationship, then just say thank you and goodbye. But if you want an ongoing relationship with a regular customer, then it's better to have one more conversation that will leave that customer wanting to come back again and again. Now, there are three good ways to do that. One, help them get excited about and enjoy whatever it is they bought. Right two, talk about when they might come back. Or three, find out what they thought about their visit. So, here are a couple of examples for the first one. If you work in clothing you might say, where is the first place you're going to wear that new dress? Or, if you work in food, you might ask, what kind of sides are you going to cook with that ham?
