From the course: Learning SAP Analytics Cloud

Understand data

- [Instructor] To get the most value out of SAP Analytics Cloud, the data that you import must be well structured. By this, we mean organized into rows and columns. Now, for some SAP Analytics Cloud data sources, for example, cloud to data feeds, it's almost impossible to check for data integrity until you attempt to import the data into your model. But given I'll be demonstrating SAP Analytics Cloud using a CSV file, we can easily review this data first before attempting to import. Make sure that Microsoft Excel is open, and then navigate to the file that you plan to import into SAP Analytics Cloud. Let's go ahead and open a workbook. In this case, I'm going to be opening the file called EmploymentStats.csv, and you should find this exercise file as part of this movie. Now, if for some reason, you can't see the exercise file, just make sure that the dropdown box to the right of File Name says All Files, and then you should see the CSV file. Let's go ahead and double click on EmploymentStats, and in just a few moments, the file will open in Excel. Now let's select control + arrow down on the keyboard to go to the end of the dataset, and as you can see, there are about 20,000 rows. Now let's select control + arrow up to go to the very top of the dataset. The next thing we can do is apply a filter to this data. Let's select row one, click on Data and then Filter. Now what I'm going to do is go ahead and click on the dropdown box in column C next to Month, and as you can see, there appears to be consistency and commonality with the information in column C. Now, the other thing that you may wish to look for in this dataset are any gaps in the data. So for example, we want to make sure that every single cell is populated with information in the entire dataset. The easy way to check for this is to click on one of the filters and just make sure that there are no blanks that appear. If there are no blanks, then you are ready to import your data. Now, to me, this data appears to be well structured and ready to use in SAP Analytics Cloud.
