- [Instructor] Here's a simple example that uses a thumbwheel switch. Let's say, in a factory setting, we need to use the thumbwheel to preset a timer. The timer is used to keep track of heating a product. The timer can be an internal virtual device or an external device. So, simply using the thumbwheel switch to set the timer to a specific time as required and press on the start switch to start the timer. The thumbwheel switch is connected to input five module, and the start switch is connected to input one module in the PLC.
