Emotional intelligence is rooted in neuroscience, which is the scientific study of the nervous system and how it functions. Neuroscience can help us to understand how we recognize and manage emotions, and how we use logic and reasoning to think and make decisions. Think of your nervous system as your body's command center. This impacts how you communicate, make decisions, and build relationships that lead to team success. Let's see the parts of the brain that impact our EQ. The limbic brain is the emotional part of the brain. This contains the amygdala, which controls our fight or flight response, the recognition and management of our emotions, as well as memory formation. Our brains respond to emotions in unique ways. The fight reaction can cause us to react with anger or frustration toward a colleague. The flight reaction can cause us to withdraw or show a lack of interest.
